What you need to do is put 4 to 5 layers of your thickest clothes on,
some thick boots (DocMartins work well), wrap a scarf around your face and wear shades and a hat. 5 layers of marigolds should protect your hands.
Take a can of Lynx or other strong deodriant and go up there with a lighter.
Keep your finger on the spray nozzle and use the lighter.
You will now have an instant flame-thrower.
Burn the nasty little bastids!!!!

Hmmm... Some dodgy answers here so far! I had a wasps nest at a previous house... I tried to remove it in early spring, and did not do a thorough job. This was not too bad as the wasps were pretty drowsy early in the season.
Having had it easy, I tried again in July. Within the space of a minute I had been stung about 5 times!! My advice wait until mid/late autumn and then dig it out and destroy it fully... That is what I did in the end (third time lucky) and covered the ground fully. I did not see them again...

What happens with a wasp nest is you get stung!
If it is up high enough and far from people leave it. Wasps are not vegetarians and eat a lot of pest bugs.
Otherwise unless you know exactly what you are doing hire an exterminator to remove it.

Yes you should definitely get rid of it.Call a local company to have the nest removed as soon as you can cuz that nest is only gonna get bigger with more wasps.Trust me I like in South Florida we know how bad wasp nests can be down here.

You should wait until winter and when there aren't any wasps around and it depends if the wasr nest is too big you might have to get a specialised firm out to remove it first but get a few firms out to give you a quote

Good grief. This thing is not toxic waste. If you MUST remove it just spray it with wasp and hornet spray. Wait a few minutes and knock it loose with a broom. Simple as that. No reason to don a moon suit. Can't believe all these silly answers. Yes, I've removed dozens of them, and no, I've never been stung. See how easy it is.

YES, have it removed, unless you want to be stung! The nest will hold baby wasps which will emerge later on.

Absolutely have it removed. Consult a professional exterminator or you can be hurt. Most likely they will wait until it gets cool outside. The nest will only get larger if it's not removed. My mother-in-law had one on her neighbor's property outside her kitchen window. It just grew and grew and they had someone come out and remove it but I believe it was in the late fall.

Once you knock it down and get stung a few times, while trying to run, just throw it away. Or it disenigrates, I know it just dissappears. But spray it with wasp killer, or as I found out (was out of spray) and found some oven cleaner, it worked wonders!

Just buy some wasp and hornet spray, the kind that sprays about 20 feet. then spray the hell out of it and run. They will be dropping out of it and trying to get away, some might chase you. Wasps are very agressive.
