It depends what type of 'pills' you are on about. If you mean she was on the contraceptive pill for 5 years then so long as she stops taking it I can't see it harming the baby, you hear all the time about people missing pills and being pregnant for months without finding out they're pregnant. I wouldn't go along the lines of abortion just because it 'might' have adverse reactions for an unborn child. There are no guarantees with babies, you could have planned it and something still be wrong with the child. Your wife's midwife will be able to tell you both if something is wrong with the child, and she can always have a test around 16-18 weeks to find out the risk of the child having downs syndrome or spina bifida, so you still have a choice then as to whether to continue with the pregnancy or not. I hope you, your wife and your baby are all ok and that you and your wife follow your heart on this one. I'm sure you will love your baby regardless of what it turns out like. All the very best :)

Talk to your doctor about the pills involved and their possible side effects. Note that the side effects are only possible, not guaranteed. Ask the doctor what the chances are that those pills, taken at that time, in that amount will affect the baby and exactly what the effects may be.Many pills, including the birth control pill have very little or no effect on the unborn baby. I took birth control pills for the first 2 months of my last pregnancy and my 4 year old is very tall, healthy, athletic, and can read quite well already. I was on prescription medication for the first month of my second pregnancy and my 9 year old is also perfect, although those prescriptions can cause very severe birth defects. It is also possible to test for some defects while your wife is still early in her pregnancy and make decisions then , with your doctor's help. If the pills are not prescription ( illegal) it is even more important to be honest with your doctor about what the baby has been exposed to. It is not your doctor's place to judge you about drug and alcohol use, it is their place to help you have the healthiest baby possible.

If there is any real problems, it would manifest itself with sonograms. Many a child have been born without defects while the moms are on the pill.
The pill will more likely do something like accidently abort the pregnancy than it will effect the baby. Make sure to stop taking the pill. EDIT: I read one of the other answers, that said DON"T stop taking them. Make sure to get to a doctor pronto!!And PLEASE don't follow the advise of using your pills to abort it. She doesn't list sources, and it is too dangerous. Talk to a OB/GYN or Family Practice doctor before making any rash decisions!
If it is an unwanted pregnancy, talk to someone about adoption or just adjusting your life to accept a child. There is a reason this child is coming against all odds!

Personally I would never have an abortion unless the doctor tells me there is an 100% chance that me and the baby will both die. Im pregnant, and I was on depression medication for five years, and Ive been on Seizure disorder medication for three years, and as long as the doctor adjusts her medication to the right levels for pregnancy. and sometimes, actually most of the time the hormones that occur during pregnancy balance out any problems with you and the baby, and she might be able to get off the medication until after the baby is born. They took me off of all my meds. and Im fine. Take Care and good luck

There are also lots of children who are perfectly fine who were exposed to pills.
I would go along with having the baby-- there is always a chance something will be wrong even with everything going perfectly.
If you still feel you can't raise the child, give the baby to a childless couple through adoption who will be thrilled and thank you every day of their lives.

Depends on what kind of pills she's taking. A friend of mine had been on Xanex for 10 yrs when she found out she was pregnant & her Dr. told her that since she had been on them for so long her body was used to them & not to stop them. If she was to stop them her body would withdrawl & miscarry the baby. She had a healthy baby girl that was 7lbs.

ask a doctor to run some tests. It's the only way to know for sure what the odds are. After all, it would be a pitty to kill off a healthy normal child...

If that was the case, millions now with "ooops" would have been born retarded, or some defect. I have plenty of friends that had children and they weren't planned and yes were on the pill and their children are very normal.

I've heard that as long as she stopped when she found out she was pregnant, everything should be fine. I know people who had the same problem and their children came out just fine. Ask the doctor as well, but I'm sure everything will be o.k. as long as she's stopped.
