God forbid we punish someone for committing a crime. It is all SOCIETIES fault and the fault of her parents, her husband, her church, and her children. It is NEVER the perps fault. How disgusting that this woman has the chance to walk the streets again. And even more disgusting is the fact that she COULD walk the streets in as few as six months. It is sickening that a person this cold, calculating, and horrid could be out in society functioning as a "normal" person so quickly. Where is the justice for the FIVE children she MURDERED?

We as americans are knee deep in the courts crap! We have no rights as the victim. To let this whore out is too much or put her in a nutt house is too good for her. The Supreme Court is run by a bunch of ***** that cant wipe their butts without help. How could they ever decide on anything! We are in real trouble and Im calling for an up-rising before its too late.

he only person who should go to prison for the deaths of those children would be Rusty Yates, Andrea's husband. He knowingly left those children alone with someone who was clearly incapable of caring for them.

In my opinion, the not guilty by reason of insanity verdict is the correct verdict. Andrea Yates has had a long history of psychosis and other mental problems. It's not as if she just suddenly "snapped" one day and decided to kill her children.

Now that this verdict is in, hopefully she can get the help she should have gotten all along. It's a tragedy that it took the deaths of those 5 innocent lives in order for her to get correct medical treatment.

She had shown signs before the day she killed the children, yet those around her chose to ignore or minimize her problems. When her brother told Rusty (Andrea's idiot husband) that he was concerned about Andrea, Rusty said that Andrea just needed to pull herself up by her beltstraps and do better.

For someone with mental illness, you cannot just "pull yourself up" and be better. It takes medication and possible therapy.

Rusty refused to allow Andrea to get the help she needed. He wanted to live in a converted school bus instead of in a house, even though they had 5 children! He insisted that they follow the teachings of a cult leader who had very strange ideas about the world.

Andrea showed many signs of injuring herseIf and the children before the day she killed the kids. Rusty ignored those signs, and refused to put her on medication. She had a mental illness and couldn't take care of herself. As her husband, HE HAD AN OBLIGATION TO GET HELP FOR HER IF SHE WAS INCAPABLE OF GETTING THAT HELP!

I think Rusty Yates should be prosecuted for child endangerment since he left his children alone with a woman who obviously was unable to care for them. He's more guilty than Andrea.

WTF?!?! I hadn't followed the retrial at all. I just went to court tv and saw this. What a joke. Good ole liberal lawyers and what have you. "she was disturbed and didnt understand what was going on"....blah blah blah. This is a travesty of our justice system to say the least. Life in prison should not have even been an option for her. Death penalty should have been enforced upon her admitting she did it. The legal system for all its pros, seems to have a mounting list of cons. Almost makes the "wild west" days more appreciable. You killed someone, we know you did it, now you pay. But instead, the crazy b*** will be out of her mental ward in less than 10 years most likely, and sadly i bet she will have kids again!

The most important part of this question is "by a jury". Twelve citizens like you listened to all the evidence and applied the law and made a unanimous decision. The person asking this question, and everyone answering it above me heard none of the evidence and applied none of the law. Educate yourselves about the justice system before you criticise it.

It is plain injustice..... If she was insane, then her husband should be hanged for letting her be with those poor kids, why did the kids have to die, because of her...
Proves again that if u have good, cunning lawyers, u can get away with anything in this country.

What is a bunch of lives of bratty kids worth anyway?

Seriously, this is a travesty. If she is insane, she should spend the rest of her days in an asylum, so she can remind herself every day of her heinous acts.
