There have been comparatively few studies of the effects of sustained alcohol consumption on the brain. Short-term effects such as the loss of many important cognitive and motor functions are well-documented, but long-term effects are not so well-understood. Many authorities believe that there may be a long-term negative correlation between alcohol consumption and brain activity, but this is still somewhat open to debate and slightly controversial due to the social implications.
