Constipation
Increased progesterone levels which relax intestinal muscle tone and slow peristalsis can cause constipation. A decreased level of physical activity later in pregnancy may also contribute. Avoid over-the-counter remedies such as laxatives. Instead try the following suggestions:
Increase intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These foods will provide additional fiber as well as important nutrients.
Drink ½ cup prune juice or eat four prunes daily.
Try including more dried beans and peas into your diet. They are high in fiber as well as a great protein source.
A fiber supplement (e.g. Metamucil , Citrucel ) can also have a positive effect. Start with one teaspoon daily.
Drink plenty of fluids (at least eight glasses per day). Warm or hot fluids are especially helpful in the morning. Increasing fiber intake without adequate fluid can have deleterious effects.
Found this online. :)
This one too:
Pregnant Women — During pregnancy, many women experience constipation as their bodies produce more hormones that slow intestinal movement. In addition, their enlarged womb puts pressure against the bowels, and they often develop hemorrhoids. If you are pregnant or nursing a baby, consult your health professional before using a laxative.
Good luck!

Maybe something else is causing your constipation, I doubt it would be down to your pregnancy at such an early stage. Drink plenty of fluids and get some fibre down you and I'm sure you'll be fine.
I'm 28 weeks pregnant and had trouble going to the toilet for about a month when I found out, but I think its because I was worried that if I pushed on the toilet I would somehow push the baby out early! Once I'd learnt to not worry about it I was fine...could this be the same for you?

Constipation in pregnancy is COMPLETELY NORMAL.
Especially if you are taking vitamins that have a lot of iron in them (major cause of constipation) and it's all the changes your body & hormones are going through.
Just make sure to stay hydrated and eat properly, moving around & doing light excerise can help, good luck!

It's very normal. Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

I think most do. If you're taking prenatal vitamins with iron and perhaps an additional iron supplement, that's enough to do it. Just try to drink plenty of water and even apple juice (helps, trust me). You also might be eating differently lately, giving into cravings, etc, so try to get enough fiber as well. I read that pregnancy slows down digestion in general (might just be later when the baby is bigger though). Congrats and enjoy!

It's normal. Girl, your body does all kinds of strange things when and after you're pregnant. Apple juice is good for constipation. My guess is Sexxy Shy has never been pregnant.

It's pretty common. You should start taking more fiber in your diet and drink a lot of water, or you're up to a constipation problem. Ask your phisician about prescription fiber supplements that you can take without endangering your baby.
good luck.

YEs...you need to make sure that you get a lot of fibre in your diet...or take matamucil for constipation. Don't puch too hard when trying to have a movement.

It's pretty normal. If you start to get worried or need peace of mind, speak to your OB/GYN or doc because stress is a huge contribution to constipation.
