You should get your facts straight before making statements like this. The so-called "iron age" arrived in different times in different places; it most certainly did not start solely in Africa, nor is it possible to put a firm date on it as you suggest.

For instance, iron was used in the Mediterranean region as far back as 2000 BC; whereas in some areas of Africa today the indigenous people are still unaware of how to smelt or use it.

Consider skipping the snap judgements about what you believe "Americans think". Instead, ASK people what they think. Very likely, they'll surprise you.

african countries are advancing like nigeria its noted they wanted to launch a satelitte(sp?) into space. even china is investing money into africa but dont too many ppl knows some think they just want to do what the west has not done chalk up money and have someone owe them

Well, for myself, when I hear about Africa, it is something on TV showing starving people in rural areas or people on safari. I realize that there are cities, but most of media exposure makes it appear very undeveloped.
