well i would say in the beginning, it was money that Got him to take the job. that was the only reason he took it. they gave him an offer he "couldn't refuse".... then w/ money, came the ability for the firm to influence him. the main character felt an obligation to do what the firm "told" him to do..why should he care about specifics, he is getting paid so much?! and they knew that he was an "honest" guy, so would feel guilty if he didn't listen to what they told him to do. then came the power, and his wanting to become a partner, or having so much money to have an affair w/ the woman on the beach, but that clashed w/ his loyalty to his family and stuff. eventually all those things, which are ALL things that can be used for Good (*if* the person chooses to use them for good), all worked together to destroy the main character and his morals. the firm was able to use the money, power and influence (they pretty much set-up the main character so they could take pictures of him w/ the slutty girl, etc), and so were able to ruin this guy's life. which is why people Need to use their wits and morals to help guide them to make good decisions, and not let money, or power, or other things to influence them to do bad things. good luck!

I think you are on the money. I think the whole driving thing in the book is money, because the main character is driven by all the firm is going to give him ( New house, cars etc), after he just got out of Law School. I think it is kind of like " If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is" as was the case in this book. I actually didn't see power being one of Mitch Mcdeere's influences, I saw money and the prospect of being rich as it.

Since no one can agree on what Left and Right imply with reference to politics, the query is moot. In fact, we wish the minimal quantity of presidency indispensable to look after our God-given Rights. Any greater than that and executive turns into oppressive. The right quantity of presidency is outlined via our Constitution. Most of the issues we are facing in these days are thus of presidency interference in our individual lives. When executive is constrained via the Constitution - and each public servant takes an oath to help and preserve that record, freedom prevails. When we permit crook politicians to disregard the restraints of the Constitution, issues arise. Then, our legislators are capable to "clear up" the ones issues with increasingly executive. And the extra executive we have now, the fewer freedom.
