It wasn't a really short skirt, and it was really warm today!

I turn my back to them and wiggle my bum at them that usually gets a laugh or a cheer, no harm is meant by the whistles so you may as well take it as a bit of a giggle and show you can take a compliment & a joke.

The thing I'm wondering is why would you think a short skirt is suitable dress for work?
Unless you work at Hooters you probably shouldn't wear a short skirt not if you want to be thought of as professional

If I ever get whistled/catcalled at by workmen when I'm in a skirt I usually shout back

"If you think my legs are impressive you should see my balls!!!"
It usually either gets a laugh or they shut up.

If they say anything about me having balls (I dont by the way, I am a woman) I shout back that they should know as they were sucking on them last night, and next time they come see me for a shafting could they not cry like a little boy as its very off-putting! Or something generally along those lines!

I find workmen are usually crude, but then again so am I ;-)

You shouldn't be 'grateful' for having your privacy invaded. This happens all the time to women. You walk along, minding your own business when all of a sudden this person/persons invade your personal space, your life. You have the right to daydream in the street sometimes. This wolf whistling is part of everyday harassment experienced by women in society. Nothing ever happens but its threatening and calculated to intimidate women.

Women's experiences like this are regularly defined as 'nothing' by men and society as they are subtle. Malestream thinking is full of cliches about women making a 'fuss about nothing' so its not surprising that us women are often made to feel we shouldn't make a big deal out of such situations.

In short, DONT ACCEPT IT! If these mindless idiots insist on trying to intimidate you (and lets face it, it is intimidating when they do it in large numbers), hold your head up high and don't even acknowledge them. Don't let them phase you - just carry on your way knowing that its one less woman they have made to feel inferior.

I'd just ignore them.

If you don't want them whistling, wear a longer skirt (what I'm getting here is that they whistled at you because of a short skirt). Long skirts in hot weather don't bother me...and I grew up in Michigan. In fact that's mostly what I wear.

And I don't think whistling is to make women feel inferior...that's just a bunch of feminazi psychobabble. They're just trying to be cute, if anything.

Take a look at them. If they are handsome and half naked and resemble the gardner in desperate house wives then you give a little shy smile and show your aproval.

If they are fat ugly blokes then you laugh and say or shout something witty.

EG "Dumbo would have a better chance mate ha ha ha"

"You've more chins than the chinese phone book ha ha ha"

"You poor guy: when you fell out of the ugly tree you must have hit every branch ha ha ha"

There are loads more but the thing is you are trying to get his mates to laugh at him.

Try and see the humour in it. It can be a bit intimidating but there really there is no harm meant.

i like it. a number of builders are warm. On yet another observe, there became a woman in New Zealand who did no longer like it, and while they whistled at her, she took off all her outfits. lol i'm undecided what the theory at the back of that became.

I smile and walk on by. It's cheered them up and hasn't hurt me. I wouldn't wear short skirts if I wasn't in the mood for attention.

Isn't it interesting to think about if things were reversed? No guy would complain about getting whistled at by girls. Just an observation.

i turn back at laugh at em...it eggs em on a bit cos they think your flirting, but its the safest option

if you pull a "im not impressed face" then they take you for a stiff and give you a hard time
f you shout at em or make a rude remark then boy are you in trouble
if you get too happy bout it you get branded a ****

but if you laugh at em you just get cheeky comments...easiest option

well it depends what kind of person you are. think of it as a compliment in your heart, but infront of them (if you want to keep your dignity) just put your head down and keep walking, pretend you didn't see or hear them...but it really depends on you, if you're shy or confident.. =D but you must have looked really nice for them to whistle at you,lol...
