Actually, the grass cleans out their digestive tract. They get no nutritional benefits from it. Not sure if it tastes good, haven't eaten grass in my lifetime yet;)

Dogs and cats eat grass because they are not feeling good and the grass does cause them to throw up which probably makes them feel good.

Dogs eat just the tip of the blade of the grass when something is struck in their food pipe. You can notice that they vomit some stuff when they do this. This is just to clear the food pipe.
Also they do this when they have irritation in digestion.

It aids in digestion. They make pet greens for this reason. Sometimes animals get flatulance and indigestion just like we do and need a little help getting it to go down or some cases come up.

They say its because of indegestion, but my cat never throws up after eating grass. I think its to help clean their teeth :) think about it... Most the time my cat just naws on it and doesn't eat it.

Their bodies are craving some essential nutrients and will "graze" to make up this deficiency. Sometimes what they are regurgitating is hairballs and other indigestible items.
We also have bears that periodically browse through our property and you can observe them doing similar things.
This is normal, natural, and not alarming unless they show signs of ill health or other problems.

Its because they are lacking something in their diet. they try to get it from the grass but it gets them sicker. Go to your local pet store and buy some pet grass let them eat from it occasionally.

I've been asking myself the same question for years. A veternarian once told me that it helps with digestion, but he actually seemed skeptical about the answer. May God bless and keep you.
