I am 10 wks pregnant and today I have a dr's appointment. He said we will be able to hear the heartbeat for the 1st time. I am very nervous because I have been spotting for the last 4 wks. I called the office when it started and they said its OK. But I didnt spot at all with my 1st child. I am scared to death that something is wrong and we won't hear the heartbeat. Help me ease my mind please!!!!

Every pregnancy is different. I think every pregnant women has one time or another worried that something is not right. Spotting does not necessarily mean something is wrong, There is a lot of extra blood flow to the area now, and for the next 7 months, a little spotting could be from sex, or just because without really having a known cause. Try not to worry too much, soon you'll know that everything is fine, when you hear your baby's heartbeat.
Congratulations!

"Bleeding while pregnant doesn't mean that miscarriage is certain, but it can occur. About half of the women who bleed do not have miscarriages. Miscarriage can occur at any time during the first half of pregnancy. Most occur during the first 12 weeks. Miscarriage occurs in about 15 to 20 percent of pregnancies.
Most miscarriages cannot be prevented. They are often the body's way of dealing with a pregnancy that was not normal."
