using remote desktop
if you use windows xp
click start
all programs
accesories
communications
then remote desktop
you will need the external IP address of the computer you want to connect to
to get this go here http://whatismyipaddress.com
you type that IP address in and hit connect
you will have to do one other thing on each pc you want to connect to right click on my computer
choose properties
then the remote tab
and put t a check mark next to let people connect to this computer remotely
and that should do it

So you do not want to share data or files? The best way I know of is free and I use it all the time. Its a remote desktop link. a site called logmein can step you though it. All you need to do is setup an account. Install some files on your home PC or any PC you wish to control. Then you can access your PC with any PC with a web browser. You can control it almost like being beside it. Of course you cannot do things like put Cd's in and you don't get to hear sound but overall it rocks.

So if you want to control your home PC at work you need to install files on your home PC "logmein" is easy to setup and is very safe once you set it up properly. Then you can use any web browser to control your home PC without installing anything on your work PC at all. You can setup multiple passwords for extra protection and it all uses a 256 encryption so its very safe. There are many options you can configure if you wish to increase its performance and safety.

I highly recommend it to everyone. "So its logmein.com" read about it make an account and set it up probably only take you 1-2 hours max to have everything setup properly. Good luck.

Other notes both PCs must have a active Internet connection and remained turned on the in tire time. After you remote control your home PC you can shut it down remotely.

You can even boot your home PC from a cold shutdown once you configure your "WOL" (wake of LAN) settings if you wish. But this may require more programs other then just logmein.

You can aways have someone at home turn on your PC for you if you don't want to leave it on the hole time.

Other remote programs support file sharing though remote desktop or you can pay for logmein pro witch does. Normal logmein is still great and free. Programs like "PC any were" can bogle down your PC so I suggest not using that remote software.

you have to share if I'm understanding you correctly, or you set up a vitual private network and go from there. Networking is the sharing of computers to a interent connection.
you can specify what is shared too.
