Okey dokey:

Meaning:

Okay.

Origin:

There's not much to be said about this little phrase, which is a variant of okay. It is 20th century American and first appears in print in Maurice Harley Weseen's 1934 Dictionary of American Slang:

"Okay doke, satisfactory; agreeable; all right."

It is really just a perky variant of okay, utilizing that favourite device of two-word phrases - rhyming. There are several alternative spellings - okay-doke, okey-doke, okee-doke etc.

Like okay it can be used to indicate that all is well, e.g. 'everything is okay here', it can be used when responding positively to a request. That is exemplified in this piece from Colin MacInnes' book 'City of Spades', 1957:

"One Guinness stout, right, I thank you, okey-doke, here it is."

It means OK. OK itself would be considered a slang by many English people.

"Okey dokey" was use to say OK to emphasise OK by some writer or some personality and word caught on.

With advent of telegraph lot of new words were coined to Heston the sending process.( e.g. SOS)

I member "A OK" was coined by NASA, in the early days of space travel, the reason being over the radio lot of words did not come clearly when radio was in its infancy.

To-day's slang is tomorrow common usage, and some time goes out of favour for some other word, all of a sudden.

To-day's dictionary prints lots of slang, which is fine but if you pick up even 30yrs old one, you will be hard press to find a single slang or bad word.

Just a cute way to say it as far as I know...that way it rhymes and sounds cute I guess *shrug
You know when Hilary Clinton says, "okay dokie artichokey" it's just for cuteness factor.

Ok, I looked it up and here is what Wikipedia has to say:
Okay is a term of approval or assent, often written as OK, O.K., ok, okay, okee, or more informally as simply kay, k or kk. When used to describe the quality of a thing, it denotes acceptability. However, its usage can also be strongly approving; as with most slang, its usage is determined by context.

The word "okay" is currently the single-most-used word on Earth, owing to its common employment in a vast number of cultures and languages. [citation needed]

There are several theories about the origins of this word, some of them apocryphal and none of them conclusive, although the suggested origin as an initialism of oll korrect has relatively widespread support. Whatever its origin, the word spread around the world, the "okay" spelling of it first appearing in British writing in the 1860s. Spelled out in full in the 20th century, 'okay' has come to be in everyday use among English speakers, and borrowed by non-English speakers. Occasionally a humorous form okee dokee (or okey dokey) is used, as well as A-ok.
