The original concept of the "down low" meant that you were having an affair and didn't want anyone to know about it. Now, thanks to brothers like J.L. King, the "down low" now means that a person is deep in the closet, but don't want anyone else to know. That means that there are brothers(of all colors) are having sex with each other AND their wives, girlfriends, and partners. This is a dangerous practice because so many lives can be affected. Tell your friend that this type of behavior ain't cool, and that he's playing russian roulette with his life. To me, the "down low" is "low down"!

On the down low is a phrase that generally refers to married "straight" men that fool around with other men. However, they do not consider themselves gay, and they keep it a secret from their lover, friends, etc.

That term is usually applied to black men (though not always) who pretend to be straight and have gf's or wives and hook up with men for sex.
When the guy goes looking for M/M sex, he is on the DL.

It is a term for men that have sex (from what I understand it is unprotected) but consider themselves str8. The don't talk about it, they just do it...
