I just recently got my septum pierced.
and now i found out that i'm going to have to have surgery on my nose in 3 weeks. which basically means, the peircing has to come out.
now i realize that the hole will definatly close up and thats not my concern.
i'm just wondering if anyone knows if i'm at risk for an infection by removing the piercing right away.

the spacer would be a great idea, the only thing is that i'm getting a complete nose job so the spacer would interfere for sure.

As I always state... i am a piercer...

with that aside.. if you take your your piercings and you havn't had it long chances are it will close within 24 hours. the most i can recomend is to clean it right after you take out the piercing and also the next day.

the puncturer

No you aren't at risk for infection but if you leave it in until your surgery day there is a good chance it will stay open. I peirced my eyebrow took it out two weeks later and it never closed up and I have had it for 12 years now and never put anything in it except for fun or to gross people out. If it is a hoop then you get plyers and twist the two sides in opposit directions. If you pull it straight appart it will ruin the hoop. It may not close up because if it was pierced correctly they actually made a hole threw it and took out tissue. If it was pierced incorrectly like with a normal sewing needle or peircing gun those are just puncture wounds and it may close up. Use bactine on it as often as you can (the more the faster it actually heals) and you may still have the hole after the surgery.

I doubt it, but go ahead and keep the area as clean as you can until it appears to be closing up...can you not even put a plastic "spacer" in there to hold the hole open through your surgery?

I would call the place where you had it done or a tattoo/piercing place and ask them how to care for the opening after you take it out
