There is this guy at my work that smells really bad! l know it sounds really funny, but he seriously smells like rotton garbage every day! l have spoken to the manager about his smell and the fact that he doesn't do ANYTHING and l always have to go behind him and finish his work, but the managers keep saying they are going to talk to him, but l do not think they have. l think that his smell could possibly considered as harassment, but l do not want to have to take it that far. What should l do to get the managers to deal with him??

The same thing happened to me. This guy smelled sooo bad I gagged every time I had to go near him. Since the problem has not been dealt with, I would go above the managers you have already spoken to. I completely understand how you feel. It makes working conditions unbearable. Good Luck.

Personal hygiene is a tricky area in the workplace. Sorry, but it won't be considered harassment. Your manager is probably avoiding the issue... who really wants to tell someone they stink? Here's a few tricks you might want to use. "I'm sorry, (name of co-worker), but I think you spilled something on your clothes. I have some Fabreeze right here... would you like to spray some on your clothes?" Another approach: Get out the air freshener and spray it around your entire work area and in his area as well... blame the lousy ventilation system in the building. Odds are he is unaware of his stench... he has grown accustomed to it. Your other alternatives are to complain to Personnel if your manager won't talk to him... but this leaves you vulnerable and might cause your manager to think less of you. You could possibly request a change of where you work... maybe you'll get lucky and another workspace will be available. I suppose you could also request changing departments or even start looking for another job entirely. I'd stick with my first two suggestions to try to improve the air quality to start... good luck!

Walk to the man and ask him if he has heard about the news lately about a co-worker that got murdered because he had a bad odor.
