Cats are related to rodents in the sense that they are both in a group called Boreoeutheria. That group includes rodents, cats, primates, whales, bats, shrews, dogs, horses and a host of other animals. We're more related to a rodent than a cat is (we're both part of the Euarchontoglires group). Cats are more related to bats, shrews, cows, and dolphins than they are to rodents.
