I was looking up Edna Bambrick yesterday (don't ask why), and happened upon some child molester's blog. Long story short, the site put a trojan horse on my mom's laptop in the form of a temporary internet file. I deleted the files and scanned, and it said they were gone. I just started the laptop, and it made some horrid spinning, grinding noise that sounded like it was coming from the hard drive. It loaded Windows correctly, but then I shut it off so it couldn't damage itself. Oh my god, what do I do? My mom is going to kill me!

F8 doesn't work, and it doesn't say how to put it in Safe Mode, so I skipped that and I'm scanning with McAfee now. The grinding's still there, but it's a lot quieter.

i doubt she'll be upset if you simply explain that you happened accross this site accidentally. it's not your fault what others add to their websites.

scan your computer with all of these online virus scanners until you find the trojan. then simply delete the trojan. no need to download these. they work right online.

I do not thing the trojan caused this. Viruses do not cuase physical damage. they only damage the data on the drive. Getting grinding noises from the hard drive is a sign there is a physical problem with the drive. The data should be backed up immediately and the hard drive replaced.

Start it up in "Safe" mode and delete all temporary files then try "rebooting" Most computers boot in safe mode by using the F8 key at bootup.

dont worry about it, those things happen, as long as you didnt physically damage it, it should be fine, and hey! we all are gonna put something like that on owr computers sooner or later, thats just the way it is and you did the right thing by cleaning it right then, now carry on and keep loooking things up, after all, how are u to learn?

Your harddrive may need to be replaced. The grinding you hear also might be comming from the fans.
