I guess as being once a child myself there were times I was lazy about what my parents told me to do, such as picking up after myself and doing my chores... when you become older you'll realize that they were right to try and teach you the best they can because you'll eventually grow up and have a family of your own... and no doubt teach your children the same things because it teaches you responsibility, gives you character and these are desirable qualities that partners look for. You may not see it now but in the future you will. So try and listen to your parents because they are just preparing you for a future that you do not yet see.

One day you'll have your own kids, and you'll tell them to do something, and they'll be on yahoo answers askin if when ya'll's mom of day asked ya'll to do something do ya'll sit there or just go do it when they say.
And you'll be pissed because they're not doing what they're supposed to and they're on the computer asking this question.
They work and provide for you, the best you can do is listen to them.
Kids nowaday are so damn lucky, they don't even realize it. I was told once to do something, and if I didn't do it, I got the hell beat out of me and THEN I did it too!
Nowaday you guys are griping because your parents didn't get you a car when you turned 16, and because your allowence is only $30 a week. Boooooohooooooooo. My allowance was my dinner on the table at night.
JUST DO IT.

well when I was a teenager, I used to try to get out of it, by just sitting there, but now that I am 24 I do whatever my parents ask me to, even though I don't live with anymore, if I go over for dinner, I help with the dishes. I have realized how much my parents have done for me, and it's time I help them out if I can.

If I didn't want to get knocked out, I did what they said. But why wait till they tell you? Take the initiative and gain brownie pts.

I did what my parents asked me to do. I may have grumbled about it, but I did it anyway. I knew the consequences if I didn't do it.
My sister and my 4 brothers did likewise.

There is much wisdom in what Baltimgirl has to say. You reap what you sow. Delayed obedience is still disobedience.

I always did what they asked me to as I respected them, and still do even though I now have my own place.
