Apple snails is probably what you have.(1)

"All land snails are hermaphrodites, producing both spermatozoa and ova. Others, such as Apple Snails, are either male or female. Prolific breeders, snails inseminate each other in pairs to internally fertilize their ova. Each brood may consist of up to 100 eggs." (2)

I wonder if you like escargots?

Mollusks are sometimes asexual. Some are male & female, some have both sexual glands and some change from Male to Female and back & forth. An example is the slipper shell, a Marine Gastropod (a Snail or also known as a Gastropod or Univalve) that you find on Rocky Beaches changes it's sex depending on the position that each Slipper shell is on top of each other Slipper Shell.

I don't know exactly what Genus or species your fresh water snails are. I don't recall exactly how they reproduce. Look up Mollusks in Wikipedia. Oh, Looking up Snails in Wikipedia...They say this:

I quote: "All land snails are hermaphrodites, producing both spermatozoa and ova. Others, such as Apple Snails, are either male or female. Prolific breeders, snails inseminate each other in pairs to internally fertilize their ova. Each brood may consist of up to 100 eggs.

Snails have small slits on their necks where fertilisation occurs and the eggs develop.

Garden snails bury their eggs in shallow topsoil primarily while the weather is warm and damp. After 2 to 4 weeks of favorable weather, these eggs hatch and the young emerge. Snails may lay eggs as often as once a month."
END of QUOTE from Wikipedia---

Very Interesting! They are saying that these particular snails are aesexual, have both organs, male & female. By the way, Snails are Freshwater Mollusks that are a Gastropod. For more info look up Mollusks in an Encyclepedia or in Wikipedia or in a Search Engine.

They're not usually asexual, which means they can reproduce without fertilization, but they are hermaphrodites, which means any two snails (of the same species) can reproduce successfully. Generally, and in my experience, a single snail won't reproduce.

some snails can be parthenogenic (which means that the females are able to produce offspring without sexual reproduction). i don't know if all are. but i think that they can switch between parthenogenesis and sexual reproduction depending on the environment. good question.
you might just want to take a few out and give them back to the pet store. usually they will take them. don't leave them in a pond or something like that outside. they could become invasive to that area!!

Snails have both male and female organs but if you remove the others there shouldn't be a problem. If there are too many kill most of them. That's what I did.

Some snails are asexual, but not all.

No, well, actually they are hermaphroditic (this means that they are both male and female)but they do breed with each other.

By the way, what is asexual
