Fender Stratocaster
He was left handed
the guitar was not.
and yes, he reversed the nut to string it properly. he did this because left handed guitars were more expensive and harder to find.

jimi had a bunch of guitars, but he played mostly fender strats. they were right handed guitars that he just flipped over to hold lefty. some of them had work done on them at various points to have new nuts retrofitted, but not all of them. he just flipped the strings the other way around. back then lefties were hard to come by, and more expensive, and by the time he could afford lefties, he was known as unique for playing a guitar "wrong-handed" (among other reasons).
jimi also played a few different acoustics, and he had a gibson SG and a gibson flying V. he used the V at the end of his career in concert.

Hendrix also made a brief appearance with a Gibson Flying V which he used for the "Isle Of Wight" (sp?) festival.

Fender Strat, strung backwards, although I do remember seeing a pic of him playing a Les Paul that was strung backwards, that was cool, but he ALWAYS played a strat
