You are absolutely right--she could miss her period for six months and still be able to get pregnant, in fact. Since you generally get your period about two weeks AFTER you ovulate, there's no way to know for sure that you ovulated until it's too late. (there are actually test kits that show when you are about to ovulate, but if she's irregular it would be tough to know when to check.) She needs to see her ob/gyn to get her hormone levels checked, and decide what to do about taking hormones, and using an effective birth control method.

Until her Dr advises her that menopause is for sure over, she should still use birth control. Her body is changing hormonally, which is probably due to the irregular periods, but she is still cycling. The eggs that she is ovulating each month are quite old now, and if fertilized have high chances of having abnormalities. This is difficult for a young mother, but even more so for an older mom not wanting to be pregnant, lower energy, etc. There are many birth controls out there that are long term, minimal hassle... she should look into them. Please keep on her!!!

My mother, who is 55, just last year got off the pill. Her periods were irregular and she stopped taking the pill. Since then she has not had a period and menopausal. Your friend should go to her local physician to have her hormone levels checked and not get pregnant due to her age. A woman over 40 is more likely to have a multiple pregnancy, a child with birth defects, or health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure which can lead to more serious health problems or death.

If she still gets her period at 52 then yes it's possible but the irregular periods are most likely because she is approaching menopause, especially if she is on birth control.

She can still get pregnant. She should go to a doctor so she can get hormone pills to make her regular. Sounds like she is going through menopase.

The chances of pregnancy are not too good, and I do not think she should have a child at her age. You read about women doing it, but you don't read about the ones who have died or almost died and lost the baby.
