Hi, I am a Freemason (of a more esoteric Order, the American Co-Masons).
You must in all cases ASK to join. No one recruits you. No one. Once you apply - we call it "knocking" - you will be interviewed by probably three Master Masons to see if you will fit in with Masonry and Masonry will fit in with you. You will also be asked about your family and will joining the Lodge cause a hardship or discord in your family.
In our Order, Co-Masonry, we admit women and men, of at least 21 years of age, of all races, who believe in a Supreme Being, who are tolerant of people of other religions and races, who are moral and try to lead upright lives, who wish to improve the world by improving themselves.
In the masculine Orders they do not accept women into their rites. I think the rest of the requirements are the same, however.
In our Order we place a great deal of emphasis on slow advancement through study and discovery of meaning of behind symbols. We are not a religion but a system of morality. We try our best to live to the Golden Rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
If you wish to, you may write me or click on the link below for more information about my Order. In any case, I think Freemasonry has helped me quite a bit. Good luck.
