Austin, your comment was just plain stupid. You obviously have issues. What are you, 13? Did your mom take away your ipod and now you are in living hell. Get a clue. You are ignorant. If this world is so damn bad what are you doing trying to connect with other people using yahoo for? That is so stupid what you wrote. I mean really, go tell your mom she is insane for raising such an idiot.
Andrea Yates had the right attorneys. The system is extremely twisted, the jurors were obviously swayed into some other thinking other than a rational one. The attorneys were fighting for her right to have continued treatment. For what? What purpose could her being cured serve this world for. We have billions of people in this world that cannot even go to a doctor because they cannot afford to and we have this stupid ***** being "treated". Yikes! Don't get me started. The system is not always correct. And some but not all lawyers are crooked, scandaless, and cruel to defend a sick psycho ***** like that.
What if that was your mom trying to kill you? Oh poor mom had a bad day? Geez, I cannot believe the way the courts work in these cases. Please don't defend this wacko. Plenty of people have issues, severe ones at that. This does not allow you a get out of jail free card for taking the lives of 5 small children.

I DO NOT agree with the verdict!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She killed her babies one at a time. Her oldest son walked in on her in the bathroom while she was drowning his 6 month old sister, the boy ran through the house and Andrea Yates chased him and dragged him back to the bathroom and then drowned him too (she knew what she was doing!!!). She should go to prison where she can get tortured every day! Someone should stick her head underwater long enough for her to think that she is going to drown and then do the same thing to her the next day, and the next day, and the next day after that. She should not of gotten off so easily for killing her babies. A 6 month old, 2yr old, 3 yr old, 5 yr old, and a 7 year old, How can you kill your own flesh and blood!!?? They are basically saying that it's OK for you to kill your children if you plead insanity! I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THE VERDICT.

There are so many people out there who have no clue what it means for a person to be insane and they truly believe it completely takes away a person's judgement and it doesn't. I have an aunt who has schizophrenia and believe me as crazy as she is she knows right from wrong. She hears voices, but also knows when she is going into that state and for a long time refused to take her meds because she felt the could manage the illness on her own. Because of the fact that she wanted to be a part of my cousin's life she decided to give up her rights to him and allow him to live with my grandmother and take her medication regularly like she was supposed to. She promised to do this because she wanted to manage her illness.
That said, I just wanted to comment on all those out there who believe that Andrea Yates illness absolves her from some sort of control. Everyone is blaming her husband for not helping her, but Andrea Yates is not a child. She is a grown women who could have walked away from a bad marriage if she wanted to. She didn't because she wanted to make that marriage work for better or worse. Also, she believed in the insanity of that church just as much as her husband. Being a grown woman and not a child she could have stood up and said she didn't agree with the teachings if she wanted to. She didn't but she followed the teachings to the point she killed all five of her children in cold blood just so she could be right with the lord as the church she went to saw it.
Not only that, if she loved those children so much why didn't she take the advice of her doctor and not have anymore children. She couldn't have gotten birth control? She couldn't have gone and gotten her tubes tied? I'm not saying it would be easy to do if her husband objected, but I'm sure her husband also objected to her killing her children but she opted to do that anyway so why not?
The only person to blame is Andrea Yates. Depression is a real issue, but if she had people telling her to get help and she didn't she is to blame for that no one else.
Not only that, I'm tired of this country and the belief that women are too innocent to be psychopaths. Susan Smith drowns all five of her children and she's not a murderer but depressed? Women school teachers sleep with their underage students and their not child molester's they're just confused? This country has a hard time admitting to the fact that even women aren't just sugar and spice and everything nice. That they too can do wrong, great wrong, and should be punished greatly for it.

No I don't agree with the verdict. I think it should be GUILTY but INSANE. Bottom line, she killed five kids. How can she be not guilty? She methodically hunted down her children one by one and drowned them. After the crime she called police and told them what she had done. Obviously she knew she had done something wrong. it is just aggravating to see someone get away with something like this. It really sends the wrong message to people. Also, after recieving treatment, should she be sent to prison? I think so...

These days you seem to get away with everything. This woman got away with murder!!! She is crazy, but just like everyone else who kills, they go to jail or get the death sentence. What makes her special that she gets away with murdering her 5 babies and gets to go to a mental hospital? This system is so screwed up, that is why there are people killing each other, because there is no punishment for them. You get a slap on the hand, that is about it.
She might get away with it now, but the day she passes away and meets the big man, she has to answer to him on why she would have killed 5 children that God gave her to take care of and love unconditionally.

She should be put to death.
however the more reasonable side of me must say that although she was found not guilty by reason of insanity is just. She will be sentenced to a hospital for the criminally insane!
Any human who kills cannot be sane!!!!!!

That's what happens when you have 12 really stupid people and an even dumber judge ruling the laws. I think she is faking it. Anybody can claim to be "temporarilly insane". Big Deal. Prove It! I think they should drown her and her voices!

I do not agree with the verdict. She should have at least got life in prison. But I am glad it's over now.....I won't have to see her ugly face on TV everyday. She makes me want to throw up!

she is guilty of the killing of her children and she should be dealt
with as a killer, not insane.She is insane for what she did but because they held her for 2 weeks in a cell with no clothes(suicide dress)they felt sorry for her.She will live in a mental hospital all drugged up and won't never deal with her problem cause of the drugs she will be given.
Those poor children.

HELL NO! insanity, oldest trick in the book and MOST RIDICULOUS! if you are insane you don'T BELONG ON THE STREETS ANYWAY! but instead you can live your life in a mental hospital where they treat you nice rather than prison where she belongs!
