It shouldn't matter if you are gay or straight. Everyone is equal no matter their sexual choices.
It shouldn't matter and you shouldn't brag about it.
Be proud and stand tall.

I strongly disagree. I think it is a hell of an achievement.
Do you have any idea the unmitigated hell some people have to go through just by being gay? Living in the closet. The terror of what friends will say when you do come out. The uncertainty from parents. Never knowing if you'll be bashed walking home at night. Having to work twice as hard to have half the rights. Having to work twice as hard to love yourself just the way you are.
I'm proud of being openly gay because it was a difficult process to come to terms with who I am, learn to be comfortable with it, enjoy being part of the gay community, and get over my own fears and insecurities. I'm proud of what I've accomplished on that front as a bisexual. So I have gay pride :-)

I don't think that it is so much being proud of being gay. It is being proud of yourself for having the courage to lead an open and honest life. Especially in the face of discrimination and hatred.
I liked YOUR phrasing. I am gay, unashamed and unafraid.

Im gay,
but im not proud. I was brought up around strait guys my whole life. Being gay just made me different. I am trying to come to terms with all my issues in life. But in the end sexuality shouldnt matter! But it does. In this world there are still homophobics and very shallow minded individuals.

I think when people say they are proud to be gay its because they were persecuted for so long and now, they feel maybe they are finally receiving rights like everyone else deserves. I think they are proud of their accomplishments as a whole and are speaking up for equality. This is just my opinion

The creator created all of us in his likeness. It is small mined people that want every one to be the same. We should be proud of what we are no matter who we are, as long as we live good lives. If you research it you will find that a lot of great people were gay. I my self am straight. Bottom line is start thinking "I am proud of who I am and what I am". God created me and made me in the likeness of God.

ultimately, i see my sexual orientation (likewise my schizophrenia), as being no more important than the colour of my eyes. it's other folk who make it an issue for us by giving us a hard time when arl we want to do really is live our lives as best we can same as anybody else.
i see myself as many things, and being a lesbian (or schizophrenic) for me is not top of my list, but other people seem to enjoy placing those two aspects at the top. am neither perverse or violent, so whats the problem? prejudice, ignorance, fear, stigma, bigotry, denial...etc...
however, i do appreciate the freedoms we have nowadays thanks to the pioneers of gay rights, and people through history who have achieved, thrived or even just survived, in a less than gay friendly environment. there are many people in the world who dont have the luxury i have of being able to say "yes am queer, am here, get used to it. now can we talk about something important?..."

Straight - so we have something in common. We both like women!
I agree that pride may not be the right word. Just everyone be who you are, and enjoy life.
I also find it odd that people are "proud" of their ancestors. I am grateful, but not necessarily proud. I feel uncomfortable somehow implying that I am taking credit for their achievements.

Why would anyone bother about taking 'pride' in their sexuality? I can understand that some want to stand tall and show that they don't care what anybody else thinks and that is great, it really is but why not just get on with life without paying so much attention to your sexuality that you take pride in it? I take pride in my appearance and pride in my work but i don't quite understand the concept of 'pride' of one's sexual orientation. Could you possibly explain it? This is not just for those who are homosexual but also for those who are asexual, straight, bi - whatever you want to be classified as. Do you really feel the need to show everybody that you are attracted to a certain sex. Do you really feel the need to show the world you don't care what they think? If you didn't care what the world thought then logically - you wouldn't take pride as....you wouldn't care!
