i am debating on going to vegas tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone from the Los angeles metro or down here has gone to vegas lately and if there is any construction still going on? (went a few months ago and there was so much traffic on the 15 that we were going like 1mph!) just wondering the time it took and the road delays they have?
thanks a bunch for anyone who answers, ill choose best answer!!

I visited Las Vegas the weekend before July 4th, and didn't have any unusual traffic problems. There's always the possibility of an accident messing things up, so keep your radio on a news station for traffic reports. If you're leaving on Thursday, it should be good. Just try to leave before noon. And coming back, if you're returning on Sunday, also leave before noon to beat all the people taking off after their Sunday brunch. Any other day should not be a problem. About the construction, though: there was an announcement on the news that the I-15 will have major shutdowns starting next month, so you might as well go now before it's ruined. Those shutdowns are supposed to last for the next YEAR! (P.S. That 1st person is right; I always get off on the 215 and take the airport tunnel to Paradise Road. ANYTHING is better than crawling along the Strip.)

There's always construction going on here. There really is no getting around the possibility of traffic. I would advise you to take the 215 exit toward Henderson and exit at the airport, which will take to you Swenson, a street that runs parallel to the strip. So if you're needing to get to Tropicana or Flamingo, just make a left and you've bypassed the main traffic of the 15.

I went the weekend after July 4. Drove up Friday night and drove back Sunday afternoon.

The drive up was pretty good. About 4.5 hours leaving at 9PM.

The drive back was bad. Between Baker and Barstow, traffic just started to crawl. Total drive time on the way back was about 6 hours.

If possible, I would stay an extra night and drive back early Monday morning, or just hang out all day Sunday and drive back late that night.

All that said, Vegas pretty much rocks, so it's almost always worth going.

Check the Cal trans website before you leave. If there is construction, sometimes you can find a way around it.
