The Tigers have a strong lineup and ptiching staff, and only have to play .500 ball to get 98 wins, will they keep it up (I think they will)

I can see them in the LCS, but the strange thing about baseball the past few years is the most dominant team in the league never wins. Yes, the '98 Yankees won it all. But take 2001, when the Mariners won 116 games that year and lost the ALCS in 5 games. The next year, the Yankees lead the majors with 103 wins but lost the Division Series in 4 games to the Angels (who won it all that year!). In 2003, the Braves and Yankees both went 101-61, yet the Braves lost in the Division Series, and the Yankees lost the World Series to the Marlins in 6 games, not to mention some amazing pitching by a young Josh Beckett in the final game (8 IP, 9 K). How about 2004? The Cardinals won a remarkable 105 games but were SWEPT by the Red Sox in the fall classic. In that series, Scot Rolen, one of the Cards' most important hitters, did not collect a single hit. In 2005, the Cardinals won 100 games, but lost to Houston in 6 games, a team the won 88 games in the regular season. Hmm.

That said. I'm not sure. Leyland's influence could push them into the World Series but they might not win. However, some of the NL teams are very weak, so there is surely a possiblity. I would not count them out.

The last two years have produced surprise winners. I believe the Tigers have a good shot at it. They need to work on their middle relievers, if they do get to the World Series. Their starting pitchers need to start pitching maybe an inning longer per average to be able to keep the bull pin rested. That would be a slight cure for the middle relief problems. The manager plays too cute with calling an excessive amount of wasted pitches.

The hitting has been rather good; they have had times of slight slumps with their first five batters not complementing each other. I was thinking the Tigers first five are probably the number two or three in the league. But their next three hitters seem to be holding their own. I had hoped to see a change with regards to the DH, but it is the manager's call.

They'll make it to the post-season likely winning the division. They may even make it to the ALCS, but it's doubtful they'll make it to the World Series. They're a very talented team this year, don't get me wrong, but they've amassed so many of their wins by beating up on sub-par teams. I'd love it if my Yankees played Kansas City 19 times like the Tigers. In the end, Detroit is going to have to beat either Boston and Chicago or New York and Chicago. Boston swept Detroit, the Yanks took 3 out of 4, while missing many of their All-Stars. Chicago is a tough team, even though they got swept by NY...they've played hard against Detroit and also have great pitching and bats. The Tigers are looking good for the future, but this is not the year they win a championship.

No, they'll lose to the White Sox in the AL Championship, and the Sox will go on to lose the world series to the Mets. Also, Minnesota needs to just stop. Nobody in Minnesota even likes Baseball. All they care about is hockey. The Twins draw like 653 fans a season. If the White Sox dont make the playoffs because of the freakin Twins, that would suck.

It is a strong possibility.

I'd rather they win the division then the wild card (as you said they get 98 wins easily).

If we win the division we play the winner of the West--and I think we have a better chance of getting past the West.

It depends who we face in the ALCS.

If we play Boston, NY, or Minnesota then we'll have an uphill battle...but it goes 7 games.

And we all know anything can happen in a 7 game series (aka 2004 Red Sox).

If we get past the ALCS it doesnt matter who we face for The WORLD Series---we'll clobber them!

Yes, and I am crossing my fingers for them...

Heres why they will win

They dont have great hitters except Pudge, but more importantly they have players who can hit and reach bases.

Good pitching, Bonderman and Verlander are stepping it up this year, just hope Mike Maroth can come back and than just sit back and relax as they beat the $hit out of every other team!

If that Astros got so far last year, than why not the Tigers!

They have 3 young studs in Verlander, Bonderman and Robertson. Pitching is def better than ChiSox. White Sox are strong though, its going to be exciting as hell come September/October.

I definitely think they will get into the playoffs, but win the World Series - no.

They can possibly win. They have the best record, but anything can happen between now and the playoff, and stuff can happen in playoffs. But they are a solid team who can win it.

Its possible, but I think the redsox playoff experience will help them "edge" out the tigers... this year anyway
