No....none of these will help bring gas prices down: boycotting a couple of different brands, participating in a "gas out" for a day or 2 or 3, signing a petition to Pres. Bush, buying only a few gallons at a time rather than filling up all at once, etc.

Snopes.com has several articles which go into detail that you should check out. See the Source link below.

Some people are doing just that! Others are using their
bicycles, and car pooling. The best bet is to make a list of things you have to do and then do them all in one day.
Make a circle going away from your house and then come back to your house. Try to make a stop at the supermarket either last or next to last where perishables
will remain somewhat cold in the car. Never go to the supermarket first! Trade off with a friend- I'll drive you to college, work one week and then you drive me the next week. I would definitely boycott Exxon/Mobile stations.
They make the most money and are ripping us all off.
If they sold less, they might have to reduce prices a few cents. Other stations would have to follow to be competitive. I don't follow certain brands; I follow prices
and will use the lowest price gas available. People have been whining, because they have to fill up their 30 gallon SUV at over $90. per fill up. I think SUV's are on the way out! The next car I buy will be one that gets 35 or more mpg.
All the car dealers lie to the public regarding mpg anyway, because these tests are done under optimal conditions at
an indoor facility. If you take a 25mpg vehicle outside and
drive it until the tank is empty, you won't get 25 mph.
Maybe you'll get 16 mph if your lucky. You have to add in wind drag, starting and stopping at intersections, idling at redlights, driving on concrete vs. dirt roads, rain, gunning the motor etc. They lie-we buy! I truly expect gas to go over $100. per barrel, which will mean we will be paying between $4-$5 per gallon! In some places in Europe, it is already up to $6-$7 per gallon- that's whys there's lots of bikes and lots of small cars and motorcycles. Why do car makers have odometers with
speeds of 120 on them anyway. Who drives that fast?

E-85 (ethanol) has it's foot in the door.
Give it a chance.
It's showing up at pumps in the mid west.
Business men are building ethanol plants
here in Florida.
Eventually, it will show up at Wal Mart pumps
somewhere around $3 a gallon.
What oil companies don't want you to know,
is that,
Ethonal doesn't have to be made out of corn.
It can made from wood chips, garbage, waste
material, etc.
What it really needs is for the ball to get rolling.
This should be a big issue in the 2008 election
campaigns.

It might but we will never know. Most Americans are to lazy to do without a car. I am not saying this to be mean. It is just a fact. I see people get in their cars to go to their mailboxes! I live right next to a grocery store & I see people get in their car to go to the store & get just a few items. They are the same people that wait longer to take the elevator than it would take to walk up the stairs. Or look for their remote control half an hour before they change the channel manully if they could not find it. It is crazy.
I understand that some people are handicapped, but these are regular people doing this. It is no wonder Americans have more weight problems than any other country in the world.

No matter people say, there are alternate methods of transportation. Cities & large towns have subways or trains, buses, bicycle lanes, etc...I live in a small town. I walk. A [very] few people bicycle. One could skate if they wanted to.

THERE ARE OTHER WAYS.

Word has it, if everyone were to only buy gas from the little guys, it would force the big boys to lower prices. For instance don't buy from mobile or exon (the 2 leading stations/importers). I haven't purchased gas from either in the last 5 years... yet to see a difference. But if this were done nation wide (which would be close to impossible to achieve) perhaps it would help.

Sounds like a great idea but totally unrealistic. It is virtually impossible to go anywhere and do anything without transportation. Unfortunately that transportation requires gas and there is no alternate ways to get around that. Maybe if you had a plan for something a bit more affordable to the public it would work. But without offering an alternate plan it would never work and would never make any kind of statement.

Not going to happen people commute too far to work. The only way it would work is if businesses shut down and then people didn't drive to the point that products and services that the government needed from the American public became unavailable and unfortunately our society is to greedy so if some businesses shut down then other greedy ones would capitalize on that and create a domino effect. I wish it would work it kills me to fill up our truck and it costs $125 or my car and its $75 that is just plain ridiculous. We can't even enjoy our travel trailer or dirt bikes cause we can't afford the fuel for them.

If enough people stopped buying gas then yes the problem is we need to get to work so we need the gas and were right back where we started.

the better solution would be if all americans chose only ONE oil company to buy gas from and didn't patronize any others. the other companies would be forced to lower prices to attract customers. once prices lowered significantly at the other companies, then everyone would switch to buying gas at a different company until the first company dropped their prices, then switch again. it would force a price war. but it would only work if every one stuck together on it.

No, because gas stations would just raise their prices more to cover the loss suffered from us not buying gas for a day.
