I believe she knew right from wrong when she mercilessly drowned all 5 of her children.

This is what happens when attourneys run our justice system. It's really sick! Fear not.....She may have escaped our justice system but she will someday stand before God's perfect justice system.

I don't see why it matters whether you knew right from wrong. I believe if a 5-year-old commits a crime, he/she should be tried and punished as an adult. So obviously the same goes for Andrea Yates.

If people ever buy into my "death penalty for children" idea, then maybe this sort of crap won't happen anymore. But you people have nothing to whine about if you won't listen to me.

The truth that she lives with every day is enough insanity for a lifetime of mental torture. What happened was awfull, and those darling kids will haunt their mom forever. Negativity and evil proliferate when we feed them with argument and anger. Whats done is done. we need to be at peace with the verdict so that we do not create more negativity amongst ourselves. As a mother, I dont know HOW a woman can be anything other than insane to do what she did. Just let it go. nothings bringing those kids back.

I'm not so sure about that. Have you ever known anyone with the disorders she has? Do you realize how dangerous post-partum depression can be? Let's put ourselves in her situation...her family knew how depressed and "sick" she was and they left her totally alone...that was a mistake, in my opinion. Let's not be so quick to judge and have some more compassion! Besides which, if you think being in an asylum is so much better, you should visit one!

The death penalty would be too good for her, unless they revived her at the point of death 5 times before finally completing it.

And Susan Smith should be tortured daily and not allowed to die.

If a person doesn't know right from wrong, then the world would be better off without him/her

I would have to say she definitely deserves prison or even the death sentence. I get what you're all saying about Post partum depression, and yes, it is serious, but even so it isn't an excuse for murder. Being in her shoes? if I was that messed up that I killed all 5 of my children, I would know I deserved to pay,big time!

We weren't there in the courtroom so I think it is difficult to tell. Additionally, anyone who would take a chance on spending time in an asylum has to be insane. Have you ever visited anyone there? I did - when my aunt had a breakdown. Believe me you would not want to be confined there.

I agree.. that woman should rot!! I cant believe the jury let her off like that?! Insane or not, she still murdered 5 defensless children... who trusted her. And, her poor oldest.. he knew his fate. How sad ) .: She needs to be locked away to rot!!!! Or better yet.. lets chase her down and drown her! See how she likes it.

Anyone who thinks it is bull knows nothing of mental illness. Right from wrong is a ridiculous standard as applied to true mental illness.

Yeah, her doctor and husband shouldn't have worried about her being left ALONE with 5 kids after she:
1) already tried to commit suicide
2) was very worried to have another baby (I guess her husband was not)
3) Said she was not well
4) Was hearing voices

What warning signs did they need !?

I agree that she is close to insanity but she is sain enough to try to cover up and discuss with police. How she killed to strongest first she planed it out.
A person that was totaly insain would not have shown any emotion and would have went about their day
Thinking errors and bad self talk led her to do drastic actions
