Go to craigslist.com, find your city, click on free stuff. They have moving boxes on there all the time.
or
Go to a McDonalds at a non-busy time (not breakfast, lunch, or dinner time) and ask the manager if they can save some boxes for you.
or
Costco lately had a pack of moving boxes for sale at a great price. You can also buy filing boxes (for filing papers) there in the office supply section that are great for moving small things.
Good luck.

Go to your local grocery stores or wal-mart they give them away some times you can call the stores and ask them to save them for you and they will make you a stack to pick up. I am military so we have moved like 5 times in 8 years so I know a lot about this. You can't get much cheaper than free LOL! Good Luck.

Are you in good with any 1. librarians? 2. realtors? 3. grocers? They always have too many boxes to get rid of...well, the realtors if they're good know who's moving and where you can get them. Don't be afraid to ask...the grocery store...the boxes are sometimes just put out back or you could ask a stock guy to hook you up. (or stock girl). Also...around this time of year, students are moving in and out so do you live near any college campus dumpsters and apartments near campus dumpsters.

Watch ads in your little Flyer type papers. Frequently people advertise to get rid of
movers moving boxes or check Craigs List for your area.
Liquor boxes work great, they are very sturdy.

Go to ANY store, and ask at the service desk or ask a manager if they have any empty boxes.....the earlier you go the better, since they usually stock at night and then compact the boxes during the day.

Also at a grocery store egg boxes are very nice because they have handle holes for carrying and they aren't to big so you don't end up with very heavy boxes.

Go to your local Wal Mart and talk to layaway associate about saving you some boxes. We do it all the time where I work so I'm sure that any Wal Mart ought to do it and they tend to get an entire cart full saved up at no cost to you.

sometimes you can go to local stores and just ask for boxes, places like walmart...also some stores sell boxes but they're usually like $2 a pop, i'd just go ask at random stores they're more than happy to get rid of them usually
