I have been through a lot with my son. I so not understand how a mother can kill a baby, let alone 5. This tears me up and just makes me ill. Any reactions to this?

No matter how horrible her crimes, she was not able to control her actions at the time. She had a previous history of diagnosed psychotic episodes. She doesn't deserve to die for being insane.

Of course, she does deserve to be locked up for the remainder of her life.

In America there is a legal concept based on old English law called non compus mentis-not of sound mind. That Andrea Yates killed her five children is a given, however, at the time of the act she was proven to be insane and therefore not guilty.

As I have said many, many times before, parenting should be licensed. Once again, this proves that raising children in families instead of institutions DOES NOT work.

If we actually had standards for who is allowed to reproduce and who isn't, this kind of problem wouldn't happen. Matter of fact, Andrea Yates probably wouldn't have been allowed to be born in the first place.

The reason that she was found not guilty was due to the laws and the over use of the insanity plea. She knew what she was doing and knew that she would get off with nothing if she said that she was crazy.

You're not mentally unstable. She clearly is. Sorry but despite people being whacked out of their gourds, that's what saves them from the death penalty. In most cases anyway. Irene Worrus (I think that's the proper spelling) was as crazy as they come but they cooked her. How about the other dope from Texas that became born again and wanted to avoid execution but freely admitted that each time she and her boyfriend struck her ex and his girlfriend with a pickaxe while they slept in their bed caused her to have leg shaking orgasams repeatedly.
That sounds pretty twisted to me also.

She was mental. She is suffering from psychotic depression which her Doctor was not medicating her properly for. Also her mother and husband did not take proper precautions and left the children in her care. Everything allowed this atrocity to happen.

Kudos to the United States judicial system at continuing to make a mockery of itself.

Because the lives of babies have little value in this country ever since Roe V. Wade.

I'm just sick, and it makes me even sicker to know what the jurors weren't allowed to know....that she could be released....free to walk down the street...and possibly go nuts and kill some more kids!

This is sicking. How can we allow the mother to get away with murdering her children. She should be locked away forever!
