What advantages have you witnessed?

Strangely enough I have that book. But I have been flatlining lately. Will get in touch later. I have a staff of people from India who handle all my heavy lifting for me. I bought the book in June from Borders. I have read part but not all. George W. Bush's book" Existensialism and Nihilism" has dominated my time. I started to read it and then put it away. I think I understand the concept though. It goes along with the global village concept. Free marketeering and oursourcing go hand in hand. You do ask interesting questions. Why don't you ever ask questions about your boyfriend and painful acne?

The improved communication means we no longer sit down and write letters by hand I'm not sure this is a good thing. It also means there are many sources for information. The powers that be will aggressively try making them all more like Fox News "fair and balanced". It means the younger generation will type in the ad lib language of their generation which I'm sure you as an English teacher won't like. It'll be u for you and lol for laugh out loud etc. I think with the world being flat we loose those little distinguishing touches. I understand the need for progress but I do miss the times when I was growing up. I question if all this new technology will be applied effectively. It can be a powerful tool for apprehending criminals and dead beat dads but will we utilize it's potential properly ? Or will it be applied like our vote counting machines in the 2004 election ? We can go to the moon but we can't figure out how to make a voting ballot understandable ? The biggest factor in determining success will be the human factor.

Globalization, according to Joseph E. Stiglitz means simply the “closer integration of the countries and people of the world globalization. Its purpose is so great which really would make the world go round.Though the main aim of such globalization seem failing it also brought huge benefit. The lending of money by IMF seems to temporarily help for the time being, overwhelming donations to areas in need like disater-stricken countries, market trades, speeded technology advancements. Such benefits however appear fantastic on generall view but turns in contrary if given a closer look. Obvious disadvantages are becoming more feasible. If given a thorough analysis we could say that it obstructs, rather than promotes economic development, aggravates, rather than reduces economic instability, widens rather than narrows the gap between rich and poor, and hastens environmental destruction. Deployment of soldiers is another aspect of globalization.Any good it has contributed so far? Anyway it seems that as part of globalization, wars and fighting has been aggravated, the spread of diseases like AIDS becoming more rampant, and looks like the global situation is getting worse every minute of the day.Do you think this could maintain the essence of globalization enough to maintain its finite unbounded spherical shape? No I shall say. The global shape has collapsed and turned as a "flat" world.

I think the advantage is we can understand people around the world better now. It kind of brings more things that were hidden out in the open for all to know.

The disadvantage is people become jaded with information. They get exposed to so much content that they may not know how to take it. You not just get information but disinformation as well. Sometimes true information presented wrongly can be just as bad as a lie.

I like the fact that there are many more oppurtunities to get into contact with people you maynever have met before. We can find out about any subject that takes our interest as well

Downsides; because there is always someone awake in the world we are becoming a 24 hour culture. This could lead to health problems in the future

The only good about today's communication would be that when disaster hits another part of the world, we know immediately and can aid said country as soon as possible. That is positive.

The negative part and worst part are cell phones. People walk around with those things glued to their ears; they drive that way.
I always have to wonder how we ever managed before the cell phone.
It is the worst nightmare of all.
Families do not spend uninterrupted time away from the office. But dad or mom are always hooked up and available. 24/7!!! That is insane!
Don't they realize what this is doing to their quality of life?
How did we ever manage to get to this state. !

There are many advantages... not the least of which is the global economy. We can get things from the other side of the world in a matter of days, where it would take months or years any other way.
Disadvantages... we can get things from the other side of the world... ex: birdflu.
