I can smell damp in my room but can not see any water stains, the room is over a bath room and next to one.

Hi

You say the room is over a bath so I know it is on the second floor. You say you are next to a bath, so the wall between you and the bath could have a slow leak....if it were a faster leak you would see damage on the ceiling down stairs.

The bath is the first thought but what about a window. Could you be getting a leak there that goes into the carpet and carpet keeps that musty smell.

Ok, back to the bath and a slow leak in the wall. The drywall or plaster might show spots or peeling paint. See any?

You could remove the base trim on that wall and see if there are any moist spots there. Check after someone takes a shower. Of course feel the carpet all along the wall..

What about the ceiling? Any spot there from a roof leak.

Another possibility is that there was a leak of some sort at one time and now the carpet padding is moldy and smells wet.

Good Luck,

Bob

There is a product called RID that is granular and absorbs moisture from the air.
It really works;. Of course a dehumidifier does a great job.

Hopefully this isn't a basement room where you could have ground moisture leaking
in through the concrete.

After looking at the end of your statement and if this is a recent occurance you should
check with a plumber regarding a leakage from one of these bathrooms.

Hello! I am sure if you can ventilate the room more the problem will be resolved. Kind regards, Michael John
