Maybe her daughter has been asking her that question. Pretty is a matter of opinion and I think she is would be my answer. Or pretty is on the inside... but if it's a good friend be as honest as possible without hurt feelings.

It was just to boost her daughters mental. Apparently her daughter is dealing with some issues and don't believe her mom when she tells her so. That means she has to pick some random person who was you at the time to get a different opinion. I would of said she was gorgeous, just for $hits and giggles. It wasn't like they was asking for money, just a simple compliment to make someone feel a little better. So know when this happens again young man, you just grin and say something nice. have a smile and make someones day. Much love.

She may be trying to build her daughter's self-esteem. Your parents can tell you that you are pretty all day long, but she may doubt their sincerity. Hearing that you are pretty from a friend may have a bigger impact on a girl than hearing it from her Mom, especially if she is a teenager.
If she is older than a teen, the Mom could be trying to set you up with her. Could the daughter have a crush on you?

I could see why this would make you uncomfortable--asking you if you think her daughter is pretty (especially if she wasn't).
Since most offspring look like a miniature version of their parents; she may be indirectly asking you if you think 'she' is pretty. She may not even realize what she is doing herself. There is the possibility she is trying to set you up with her daughter...than she is indirectly complimenting you on 'your' looks. Still possibly creepy...but you'll live through it.
If it ever happens again just make a comparison to the mother and everyone is happy. "She is the spitting image of her mother"...grin and suppress the gag reflex.

maybe there are motives behind this question, or the mother may have issues with her own appearance. pretty how, inside or outside? this sounds pretty typical to me in this lame as society.
