Here in California there are laws from many, many years ago that are a little quirky. For example, it is illegal to have sex other than missionary style, and the law is still in place. They don't enforce it, but it's still a law, and it hasn't been changed. Isn't that funny?

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here are a few examples of interesting city ordinances:

9.37.020 It is unlawful for any person to transport, within or through the corporate boundaries of the City, any high-level nuclear waste for delivery to a repository for nuclear waste. Violation is a misdemeanor.

9.12.050 No person shall throw or deposit litter on any private property within the City. Violation is a misdemeanor.

10.34.040 It is unlawful for any person to engage in the business of providing saunas, bathing, soaking or hot tubs, showers, whirlpools or exercise equipment where persons of both sexes may use the same facility, or separate facilities in view of each other, at the same time while in the nude. Violation is a misdemeanor.

10.40.030 The use of profane, vile or obscene language or words upon the public streets, alleys, or highway of the City is prohibited. Violation is a misdemeanor.

10.40.060 If any person shall exhibit a stud horse or jackass in any of the streets of the City, or put any mare or or jenny to a stud or jack within the limits of the City, except as such places as shall be approved by the City Manager, he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Spitting upon the floor, platform, sides or steps of any railroad or railway station, or railroad car, or upon the floor of any public conveyance, or upon the floor, platform, steps or walls of any public building, hall, church, theater, market, post office, assembly room, elevator in public or private building, or upon any public sidewalk, or upon any walk in any park or public place, is prohibited.

10.38.020 Violation--Penalty (for spitting).

Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this Chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not less than five dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars, or imprisoned in the City Jail until such fine is paid at the rate of not exceeding one day for each two dollars of such fine in case such fine is not paid, or by imprisonment in the City Jail not exceeding thirty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

10.08.010 Any person or persons escaping or attempting to escape from the City Jail shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
