I feel it's like cars on the road. If you are looking to see all the newer cars, that's what you notice. If you are looking for ~ the best blue-green shade?, those are the cars you see. If you are thinking about PT Cruisers or Spiders, those are the ones you see. Et Cetera.
Personally, I think even the old clunkers serve a purpose. They've put in many years of service and are still plugging along....as are we old codgers and 'codgettes'. It may have its' aches, but it also has a world of good stuff. May you be fortunate enough to realize that. Best Wishes!!

I notice them all the time. I used to think it was so sweet how they are still together. Now, after my own husband died at the age of 47, I still feel it's sweet, but sometimes I'm angry with God, and jealous of the old couple, and it gets me all worked up inside, so I try not to look at them. I guess that sounds weird, but it's true. You asked, I answered for what it's worth. BTW- why do you want to know if people notice the elderly on the streets?

After hearing this John Prine song years ago, I never fail to notice...
We had an apartment in the city,
Me and Loretta liked living there.
Well, it'd been years since the kids had grown,
A life of their own left us alone.
John and Linda live in Omaha,
And Joe is somewhere on the road.
We lost Davy in the Korean war,
And I still don't know what for, don't matter anymore.
Chorus:
Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger,
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."
Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more,
She sits and stares through the back door screen.
And all the news just repeats itself
Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen.
Someday I'll go and call up Rudy,
We worked together at the factory.
But what could I say if asks "What's new?"
"Nothing, what's with you? Nothing much to do."
Repeat Chorus:
So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello."

I'm 71, and I don't notice many elderly people in the street. They are usually in cars, or on sidewalks. I did see a couple yesterday in the street, well they were there briefly, passing by on their motorcycles.

every where, and i'm glad. i fear teenagers and adults, but i'm not threatened by most children or elderly. elderly people are also generally respond to manners better then others. as a whole, humans should be devoting more attention to children and the elderly, but this would get in the way of me, and me, and also me. i guess majority wins in this life time.

I especially notice them if they're in the street. This is not a safe place in my city. I'm one of them and I try to avoid being in the street unless I'm sitting in my cute little PT cruiser.
