in the local news a few days ago ( mpls/st paul) a 4 month old baby girl was found lying on a bus bench , wrapped in a blanket, wearing a yellow sweatsuit. Next to her was a can of formula, a diaper, and a note stating what the childs name was. A woman walking down the street heard her crying, and brought her home, etc....... the cops found the parents and will not be pressing charges. the baby is now in the custody of st josephs. HOW CAN THEY NOT PRESS CHARGES ????? WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE ?????

There might be other reasons the press no longer included in the report. The cops not pressing charges only means they have a good reason not to and they also have heart. For all you know, the parents can no longer give their daughter a good life, maybe they're both dying of some disease, maybe maybe maybe. ...

Some states have passed a law for when a child isn't wanted they have the option of dropping the baby off at as hospital or police station with no questions asked. They passed this law do to baby's being left in dumpster, trash cans,in the closet, anywhere and they die. I don't agree with the bus stop bench. If the baby is at a hospital and doing fine then that is a better outcome then someone finding the baby a month later in the landfill. It was probably a teenager that was pregnant and No one knew and she had the baby in the bathroom and the first chance she got she dropped the baby off were she knew would by found soon.

Laws are very strange. We, the people are being deceived into thinking that there is justice for all. The fact is that justice is reserved for the few. I firmly believe in our judicial system- even though I am sure that the system is designed by and for lawyers. An example, that comes to mind is OJ Simpson... Was he guilty? reasonable or possible doubt was enough to let him go free. Chance are that charges will be placed on the mother who abandoned her child. Justice is a long process, first the police will investigate... Then the State prosecutor may file some papers, etc,
Its a crazy world that we live in. Perhaps the person that abandoned the child did the best thing possible for that child.
Its sad, but true.

I think they are afraid that if they pressed charges for people who abandon children in a place where they have a good chance of being found quickly (and they did leave food & clothes) then people will go back to leaving them in dumpsters with no chance of survival. It's a sad fact & they should be punished, but thank GOD they left the baby with a fighting chance. Maybe they were on their way to the hospital but were afraid of getting caught on video & charged. I don't understand how anyone could do that and I am not condoning their actions. But like I said, it's better than a dumpster.

I don't know. It makes me sick to think that people actually do that. I mean if they no they are going to give the baby away why cant they just put the child up for adoption. There are many other ways to go about doing something like that than leaving the child abandoned somewhere. No offense to animal lovers cause i love animals also...but if someone mistreats an animal there are bigger consequences than abandoning a child.

I have no idea why the police aren't pressing charges against those people! They did have other alternatives other than leaving their baby all alone on a bench for any perv or sadistic person to have their way with it!!! That is complete and utter child endangerment in my opinion!! I have no idea what is wrong with people like that, other than insanity!!

Obviously there were factors in this issue that police found it not worth while to press charges against the parent(s).
The news doesnt cover everything.

what state was this in? many states have passed 'safe haven' laws. this allows a woman to give up her child without fear of reprisal. they're supposed to leave the baby at the hospital, a fire dept, police station, etc. safe haven laws were adopted to prevent women from dropping babies in dumpsters or in bathrooms. too often women felt that they did not have any other option because they could not afford to take care of the child or give it up for adoption. and women were being prosecuted because the adoption system failed them.

That is what is wrong with this place, there is no justice for people who break the law anymore. Start serving out more jail time and punishment and the crime rate will drop. Bring back hangings for sex offense and murder.
