After NASCAR declined to penalize Stewart yesterday, the argument could be made that NASCAR is now officially lawless.

Will NASCAR's popularity decline as a result of this?

Also how does Mike Helton look in light of this?

It's not lawless, some penalties occurred during the race...whether we agree with them or not what was done was done!

No, Nascar will not decline because of it, I was mad about the penalties, but I still love my Nascar!

Helton looks as he always does, little change, some people may disagree but what can you do!

Nascar is not lawless. Just because one does not like Tony Stewart does not mean that Mike Helton puts him on a pedastal, and favors him. ROLLS EYES!! Get over it. I'm getting real tired of one driver doing something and it being considered a racing deal and another gets penalized and all hte fans are up in arms thinking they know best, and that their driver was treated unfarily and the other driver gets away with everything. Nascar takes a look at each situation individually and judges accordingly. You do realize that he was black flagged for a lap, right?? Last time I checked that's a penalty..and a ***** of a one too. So when everyone sits here and voices their opinions about things like that I often wonder to myself if they realize that the people who make these decisions are there for a reason??
Trust me, look at how much news/media and what not anything Tony does brings in, esp when it's bad publicity.
Hell no, this will not make Nascar's popularity decline. It's controversary and people feed off of it. Rivalries help the sport breed..and now it has made a huge deal out of good ole' clean Cousin Carl's image and of course that will only attract more people.
Let's move on, eh?? Let's let the guys deal with it on the track each week. I'll stick to my job of watching them go after the checkered every week.

Dude Tony got penalized they blackflagged him and put him a lap down just like they do to any other driver. Just because he's driver enough to come back and finish 7th does not put NASCAR in a bad light. Tony reacted to Bowyer putting him in the wall and he spun the idiot out. 25 years ago this was a regular occurence it's just that guys like you have turned NASCAR into a sport for the wusses

THIS IS OLD NEWS LET IT DIE!

I would also like to state to all of you...
How many drivers in this series can be put a lap down like Smoke was, race back and get his lap back and slowly move through the pack to finish 7th? Dare I say there are very few! Jeff Gordon said in a post race interview that he would have done the same thing as Smoke did! This is part of racing! If you don't like Tony fine and dandy but you can never say he's not a damn good driver and feel smart saying it!

Well, Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon weren't penalized for earlier incidents, either. And Carl Edwards wasn't penalized for his threats or his bump in pit road (which can also endanger pit crew people.) So that horse has long past left the barn.

I don't think NASCAR's popularity will really decline. People seem to like the bumping and the rivalries and the hot emotions the Chase stirs up.

The on track incidents are dealt with on the spot. The punishments received at that time are all that will happen. If there are technical problems after the race with the car, then NASCAR will assess penalties.

It was over at the time that Stewart got black flagged. There isn't any more that will be done.

Big deal TS got a one lap penalty for wrecking not one driver but two. He should have gotten more in my opinion...he is a time bomb waiting to go off. Carl Edwards did get the same punishment for bumping him on pit road and he should have....he was not right for doing what he did either.
The whole incident with TS makes me mad becasue he continues do what he pleases and until NASCAR lowers the boom on him it won't change. He has a history of a bad temper on the track and that should be looked at.

I don't think so the fans love a good feud and strong rivalries. the very thing that launched NASCARS popularity was a televised race that ended with a fight between Cale Yarbrough and the Allison brothers the TV ratings went through the roof.So I don't think it will hurt NASCAR at all.

There are far to many hard core Nascar fans for the popularity to decline.

Tony Stewart needs to have some anger management classes. He is such a whiner. From what I saw Tony's wreck was only part of racing, the rookie had no where to go with Edwards being below him and Stewart being on top.

If Smoke was indeed "The Man", NASCAR should've taken it a step further. Along with the 1 lap penalty, make him go to the tail end of the longest line and REALLY earn that lap back.
