I'm pondering if i should apply for this county job. I already know what they want, : KNOW MIcrosoft office, be good at speaking, have social skills, be able to communicate WITH PUBLIC ( the place is kind of in downtown and gets alot of visitors)well and explain procedures, and even lift boxes (bend KNEES)from time to time for filing etc..Well i already feel like i can't do much of that. I know microsoft office but not advanced.. can communicate but i make a lot of mistakes and i'm generally quiet.. i have knee problems also. But not only my parents, but the a person at the Unemployment office who gave me some advice, he also said i should try that. Worth it, knowing my weaknesses?

Just apply for the stupid thing. What's the worst that can happen? They don't call you? How is that any different from you not applying?

If you know that you do not have strong Microsoft Office skills and knee problems, I would suggest that you did not apply b/c when you go in for your interview, they are going to ask you questions and have you do different tests. Then, if you do not pass, you obviously will not get the position. I feel that you should apply for a job that is better suited for you.

Do it. I've taken government job tests (the hardest is a few parts of the USPS but none are too difficult) You can even find out how the process works if you call them they'll tell, but for most cities and counties, even Civil Service,The test is to pool a list of eligible applicants, and your score is usually NEVER known to the Interviewer of that department, only that you Passed the test. Then, the Interviewer chooses based on job history and personality that would fit in their department. Your shot is as good as anyone's if you pass that test! So, go for it, you CAN do it.

Sure. The worst they're going to say is no, and they might say yes. Also, if you have to apply for jobs to satisfy the unemployment office, you'd be meeting that criteria and still be able to get your unemployment.

Plus, once you get on with the county, it's not likely they're going to fire you. No one likes to admit they made a mistake. They could quite possibly just transfer you to a different department, or better yet, once you are hired on, see what else is available inside the county and put in for a transfer yourself.

Well you never know if they arebetter than you
let me ask you this (what do they have that you don't??)huh
it's not about confidence I think that you are afradi of failure well go there and do your best if you don't succeed then it's not your fault and you'll never know unless you try or do you wanna live always thinking (what if I did this or that) live with no regrets ok!

and don't be afraid of taking a test or you'll live your whole life hiding because life is a test so go aheead and when you enter the room say this to your self (if they don't pick me it's their loss not mine)

Yes, it may very well be worth it. When you speak with someone from the county, make sure to be upfront about your qualifications and concerns so that they'll know what you expect. But you've also got to give a little. And don't be so down on yourself!
