It is certainly not safe. The statistics on this are clear. Whether it ought to be a risk that individuals are permitted to run comes down to what sort of harm the rest of us suffer from helmet-less motorcyclists. In places where helmets are required, the people's elected representatives have typically determined that the high rate of very serious injuries suffered by helmet-less motorcyclists results in very high medical expenses, etc., that the individual riders and their insurance are often unable to completely meet. The remaining costs are passed on to the public as a whole, who are therefore stuck paying for the choice some make to ride without a helmet. Society arguably has a right to impose precautions in a situation like that and to punish those who ignore the requirement. If helmet-less riders dislike that, they have the right to form associations and try to get the laws changed. Where their community has taken a position on the matter, though, riders are bound as good citizens to comply with that position.

Even though wearing a helmet is for my own good and it isn't always safe to rid without one, I think it should be legal to fore go the helmet. The government has too much say in what I do already.

Here we go again. Personal rights vs public good.
OK, OK, free country you should be allowed to kill or maim yourself, right.
versus
Why should we the taxpayers pay to clean up your mess or support you in a vegetative state?
Some laws you can toss in a free country. Seat belts, Helmets, Insurance, smog controls, safety glass, air bags, etc. Some laws that would have to enacted in a free country. Immediate euthanasia if injured in an accident. Immediate confiscation of all property you own to pay for the public services you used while dying. Etc.
I think it is easier to wear a helmet...

just think for one minute. Your hiding your motorcycle on the freeway were the speed limit is 60 mph. But, of course traffic is traveling at 70 and all of the sudden a car pulls out in front of you and you go flying off the bike over the car and onto the road head first(because your head is heavy with ego thinking you don't need a helmet). Your DEAD.
WEAR YOUR DAMN HELMET IF NOT FOR YOURSELF BUT FOR YOUR FAMILY.

It is legal here in Florida, but I think that anyone who chooses to ride without a helmet should be required to check the organ donor box on their license. Why should my taxes keep some idiot on life support, just because he didn't want helmet hair?

Personally...i don't see that a helmet helps all that much. I mean if you were going at a good speek and fell...whats that helmet really going to do? Your still more then likely going to have hurt your head. I see that people want to be safe...but i'm not sure the helmet is really all its cracked up to be.

it is in miami, i dont think its safe but i dont think it makes a difference, i've heard of someone crashing a motorcycle with a helmet on & all it did was keep his head together, i recently had a friend die on a motorcycle on I-95 they say he was going so fast even if he did have a helmet on it wouldn't have made a difference

No! Everyone riding a motorcycle should be mandated to wear a helmet too- if you hit anything on a motorcycle you're going to go flying and probably hit your head on something... hard.

I don't do the motorcycle thing, but if I was going to I would wear a helmet, but I also think it should be my choice, not the governments.
