Deuteronomy 21:11-14 I
If you see a pretty woman among the captives then just take her home and “go in unto her.”
"Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as christ also is the head of the church, he himself being the savior of the body. But as the church is subject to christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything." (Ephesians 5:22-24)
"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." (1 Timothy 2:11-14)
• "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church." (1 Corinthians 14:34)

For your question of women preachers, I do not have a problem with women preachers. In fact, my church as a boy had a woman preacher for 5 years. She eventual was asked to leave because some of the congregation had problems with women preachers. If this was someones answer to that question, remember the Bible was written in a different age where men were thought of as superior to women. These passages were written in to enforce those ideals. Men wrote the Bible, and being human they made errors and put in some personal opinions. It just happens. These are some of those.

It is nothing new that an ancient piece of literature (yes, literature) can still hold so much weight in our lifetime. However, it is also sadly true. As I am clearly not a christian, I would tend to read answers such as this and think.. "and...?". Its just another example of patriarchy desperately trying to cling on to the idea that women are subordinate to men. I would except stronger and more weighter evidence or argument for the fact that women could not hold the same positions as men.

i don't believe in superstition, such as organized religion. this is a prime example of humans supporting a common idea of segregation. if there was ever a reason for a faction of society to rise up against injustice this should have been one. it's too bad that we are blind to the truth by covering our eyes with a superstition. i enjoy reading the bible when i recognize it as a peice of literature, but as a guide to live ....it's just not healthy and it makes me sad that even today, women are struggling with belonging to a "club" that is not worth it. go where you are really needed, wanted and loved and you will then be someplace to grow spiritually and physically into a better way. women are equal to man as man is equal to everything. we should be teaching and preaching to believe in ourselves and each other before false idols, gods, or money.

You should read a book called 'Misogynys'. The above is a load of crap - women have remained silent for far too long. You can tell it has been written by a man. I wonder what men would say if the roles were reversed? A lot I should imagine!

I think the bible is fucked up!! The men should be bowing to us!! Not the other way around. I mean what do they do, Oh they go catch the meat, come home **** thier wives and go to bed to do it all over again. As we women we cook, clean , pop out babies, and are subject to a husband rape.
So the bible can go to hell on this one.

This is about that time and a specific culture. This is not for us, women, today but for greek and hebrew during that time (Ephesus's society).
The culture has changed and when you read the Bible you must have to understand about cultures and times, spiritual believes is different than cultural things. That's why to understand the bible alone is so dificult.

I am one of those "scary" people who believe the Bible is 100% true. If you do not believe in Christ and HIS divine word, then don't follow HIM. However, don't disrespect HIM and HIS Church that hold true to HIS doctrine no matter the time nor era.

The way I see it is that God created me- He gave me intelligence and a strong fighting spirit and I don't think that I should waste what I have by being submissive to a man just because I am a woman.
