When people ask questions about suicide or dying on here, 99% of the responses are "don't do it". I know it's a serious subject, but people are naturally curious, why hide things?

Cause people are afraid of it. Yahoo answers say you are not suppose to enocourage them. I think if people want to kill themselve they will. The ones who say they are going to do it usually don't.
People feel they have to shield others from something they find fearful and unpleasant.
I am not going to kill myself but I do want to see whats next if there is anything.

I'm sure the majority of those who respond with the "don't do it" are ones who have been affected by suicide...I know I am one of them. To lose someone by suicide leaves too many unanswered questions and the heart breaking "if only I had done___". All that's left is many broken hearts and a life full of potential that was cut way too short. In actuality suicide is a very selfish act as the person is only thinking of themselves and not their loved ones they leave behind (who has to clean up their mess!). I would rather someone post their thoughts of suicide here so we may be able to help them than have them not say a word and do it anyways. There is nothing...and I mean NOTHING in this world that is worth taking your life over...nothing. money, love, job, whatever...these are things that get replaced in life all the time, so why kill yourself over it, ya know? It is a decision that cannot be undone...and it really doesn't solve anything.
People also do not like to speak of death because it has them think of their own mortality and that one day we all will die.

I think it's one of those subjects that people are afraid to face, for fear that they will be judged because of their beliefs. I think it's a problem that people hide things like that, because some people really are reaching out for help but are too afraid to do so. Death is a part of the life cycle, regardless of the circumstances, so people should try to understand it better and not just ignore it and push it aside.

I'm not hiding things, I just don't want anyone taking my words and saying "I think I'll jump off the building now." Life is SO precious. I don't think it's right to take one's own life because of the effect the death leaves on the survivors.

Sometimes death is painful to talk about, even to think about.
For some people, talking about anything about death reminds them of a painful death in their family, or their fear that a family member may be deathly ill.
It is as if they thought that any mention of death made dying more likely.

I don't know. But I think it's the not talking and being open is half the problem.
People don't like to think of their own mortality. But it's a fact of life. No-one gets off this planet alive.

Hi,,, probably lot of these people are too young to have experienced a Death yet.....
its difficult to talk about for lots of people also,, some do not want to think about it. or think it will happen to them,,,,,the old head in the sand route....

Its not a tabboo. Its just not a very pleasant topic. Heck a lot of the poets (modern and past) write poems on death.

because existence is meant to be lived to the fullest. And speaking about death is fairly depressing quite considering the fact that all of us is widely used with its coming at one aspect. My faith holds genuine to that undeniable reality that all of us will die quickly and it received't be feared. (Islam) So death is conventional, yet extremely that's a tragic element. to make certain a loved one bypass away who you extremely loved. basically the cycle of existence.

Many are afraid of strong emotions. Some are so fragile that a small push could cause them to hurt themselves.

It scares people. It is one of those "unknown" things that people ahve a hard time dealing with or talking about.
