It's not only on his scalp, but his forehead at the hairline and even the skin under the eyebrows. I can only tell by feeling the rough skin or when I wash his face with a damp cloth. I've been trying to get rid of it, but it doesn't seem to be going away. Any suggestions?

Try dabbing the area with some olive oil, leave it for some time for the olive oil to soak into the craddle cap, then wipe with a soft warm wash-cloth. You might need to repeat this over a few days before everything comes off. Many new mums are afraid to wash their infants' heads properly for fear of causing damage. Don't worry.....you can safely wash your baby's face and head with gentle but firm strokes without doing any harm. If not, once craddle cap develops, it can be tough to remove at one go.
Also, some babies have tiny raised spots over their face and hairlines. They're very normal, and will go away by themselves eventually. Check to make sure the craddle cap is not actually these first.
Good luck and congratulations on your new baby.

Sometimes Cradle Cap can spread to a baby's face causing Seborrheic Dermatitis. It's itchy, sometimes red from the scratching, and can be very uncomfortable. Take your baby to the doctor before using ANY over-the-counter medications or home remedies. Usual remedies include Ketoconazole 2% shampoo for the Cradle Cap and 1% hydrocortisone cream for the Dermatitis.

My son had that too! At first I didn't even notice it - neither did my peditrican. I used Musteal Infant Shampoo available at amazon.com. It cleared it right away.

I applied to squirts of the shampoo (my son had a lot of hair) it foams up and applied it. Then I took a comb and gently combed at the scalp. Tada! We've not had a flare up since - and the bottle lasts - he's now 5 months and we still have a bottle 3/4 way full.

Dont scratch it it hurts the baby and it makes a bad situation worst!!! After you wash his hair with baby shampoo use a gental conditioner and rinse it out well then cover his head, far head and eyebrows with baby oil gel (the gel is less messy than baby oil liquid) and use a fine tooth comb to remove the loose skin. My Jacob just turned one and he still has small patches but nowhere near as bad as when he was a baby.

Tried and true: At least twice a day, rub some baby oil on the affected areas. Use a baby brush to gently rub it. This will losen the scalies and help it heal. If that doesn't work, your dr. can prescribe a medicated lotion. Don't let it get too out of control, as it could turn into excema and then you would have a bigger problem on your hands.

Best of luck! Congrats on your baby!

We used a facial brush with very soft bristles and brushed while washing his hair. It's just old skin that protected him while in the uterus for 9 months.

We didn't use baby oil or anything other than physically exfoliating with the brush and sometimes, a facecloth on his forehead and face.

put baby oil on his head(i like the creamy kind not too messy) an hour or so before bath time run baby brush through it ever eo often to loose it. Use a good quality shampoo to help get the oul out..my first sone had it like you described eye brows all through his hair..Safety first makes a cradle cap brush it's about $6 at drugstores..(got mine at CVS) it has a brush on one side and a sponge on the other and you can fill it with soap or oil...It;s really great..

Both mine had it.. wash it then use baby oil and take a comb (BE REAL EASY) and go back and forth on his head real lightly and sometimes you can use the tip of yor fingernail ... the baby oil softens it up to come right off...

I noticed they also have a new cream out for cradle cap too!

I run into that problem with my daughter...I use a small amount of baby oil and rub it in well on the scalp.....I would not recommend using it anywhere near the eyes!

My Docors nurse told me to use this and it seems to work great.

**Also can be caused by not fully rinsing the soap or shampoo from the area...so try not soaing that area as he is 5weeks and not really getting that dirty.**

You can try putting a little baby oil in his hair. The skin peels because the baby was in water for 9 months-it will clear up, just keep his skin moisturized.
