STAR WARS WEEKENDS IS A MUST!!!!!!! I went this year and it was sooooo much fun. It does not cost any extra to go, just regular park admission. All of the Star Wars 'stuff' goes on toward the back of the park (Mickey Ave). I cannot say enough about it!!....
I recommend you get there early for 2 reasons:
1. While you wait in line before the park opens, there are Stormtroopers that stand outside and talk to each other and look at the crowd, they basically put on a little show for you while you wait, plus they play Star Wars music! Very cool!
2. If you want to get any autographs, you need to get there early. You have to wait in line to get a 'fast pass' for whoever you want to see. They basically do that so people aren't waiting in line all day. We met Warwick Davis (Wickett the Ewok and Willow from the movie Willow!) and Temeura Morrison (Jango Fett). It was AWESOME!
There are a number of places where you can get your picture with characters like Darth Vadar, Jedi Mickey, Luke, Anakin, Queen Amidala, other Jedi, Clones, Chewbacca, Sand People, etc.... You should look at a schedule to see who is going to be there and when, then plan your trip from there. I absolutely loved it! I have pictures if you want to see some! Let me know!
Another really cool thing is the first parade of the day has all of the characters in it, so you can see everyone at once. Get to that early to get a good seat. Plus a lot of people get really into it and get dressed up as Jedi or Queen Amidala, Leia, etc. It is fun to take pictures of them.

This is the itinerary for this year. You'll have to check back later for infor for next year, but it is the same time every year! The feel of the park when you get inside is very neat, it changes MGM. Go, go, go!!

Star Wars Weekends is a special event held at the Disney-MGM Studios theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort since 1997- the year that the special editions were released in theaters- and is a major fan gathering. The event is annual, usually running from the last two weekends in May through the first two weekends in June. Each week there are two special guests, either an actor/actress from either trilogy or a "backstage" person. All events are included with your theme park admission, but if your nephew is a big Star Wars fan, be prepared to spend money on the massive amount of merchandise available! There are special trivia contests, character meet and greets (like your normal Disney meet and greets, only Star Wars characters) some special shows, and a lot of fans in very cool costumes (and probably hotter than you-know-what in the Florida summer!) Yes, I very much enjoy this event. I am a big Disney fan, and also I major "jedi-junkie" if you will, and it is really nice to be around a lot of people that have those same loves. The atmosphere is great, and if you get a little tired of wall to wall stormtroopers, then there are the normal MGM attractions like the Tower of Terror or Rockin' Roller Coaster to pass the time. I think it would be well worth you and your nephew's time.
This year's event has passed, but if you would like to see what it is all about, check out the Unofficial Walt Disney World Information guide at www.allearsnet.com for reviews about events not only for this year, but for years past. They will also post any information they get about 2007s event as soon as they get it.
Hope to see you there!

I went to the Star Wars weekend for the first time this year. My fiance and I had a really good time. We didn't get there until about noon or so, and thus we missed some of the activities in the morning, but it was still a good experience.
Each year, usually during the four weekends in May and the first weekend in June, MGM hosts Star Wars weekend, where guests usually come dressed in outfits and walk around the park, enjoying special exhibits, meeting actors and getting pictures with characters from the film. Each year, they have different people to meet, activities, parades and such. This year, my fiance and I got pictures with Chewbacca, the Emperor, Boba Fett, Greedo and Darth Vader. It's really fun if you're a Star Wars fan. And it wasn't too crowded when we went. There's no extra cost aside from admission into MGM for the day.
Here's a link to the website with more information.

Disney has the Star-Wars weekend every weekend during the months of May and June. So, unfortunately you missed it for this year. This years even took place from May 19 to June 11.
It does not cost any extra, just the regular price of admission. I'm not really a big fan of Star Wars, so I've never really gone.

I've been there during that, but I didnt go specifially for it.
Its at the MGM theme park, usually during May-June. It doesnt cost anything extra. When I was there, they had some actors from the movies there for autographs ( I think the guy who played Boba Fett was one ), but none of the "really big" stars. They also had Darth Vader and some stormtroopers posing for pics.
