Assuming this could happen in one day, the melted ice would dilute the salt content of the oceans. This would cause a severe decrease in the warm current that keeps the northern Atlantic warm. The result would be a new ice age.

The oceans would rise about 20 feet, causing major flooding in all costal plains. (bye bye florida). This though is relatively impossible, and may never happen unless the earth starts to wobble off its axis. Even with a temperature rise of 10 degrees in the worlds overall temperature (which would be extreme), the poles still wouldn't melt to the point of that extent.

Catastrophic of all low lying and coastline areas. 1/3 to 1/2 of Florida will be under water, same with Louisana, New York City, San Diego, Houston, Rio de Jinero, Bangledesh, Hong Kong, etc...
