I've recently found out a little more about what's been wrong with me, but I'm still mostly in the dark here. This is the third time in less than 9 years that I've had problems with cysts, last one being a little over a year ago and it ruptured, which led to my having a D&C.
I found out yesterday that Ive got a 2cm cyst that appears to be hemorrhagic in the right ovary, and several smaller ones in the left that appear to be functional. I was on the BC pill until recently, so those haven't helped at all. There's more info on my last post, whch was very long, subject said "odd female probelms, please help" (something close to that).
Anyone have a problem like this? What should I expect? I've been reading up on it a lot and it sounds like I may find out I have to lose one or both of my ovaries and I'm really scared and getting kind of depressed. Could someone tell me if they to have had something similiar happen to them and what they went through? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

FYI..there are three types (Functional, Corpus Luteal & Endometrioma). The ones on the left "appear" (according to my PCP) to be functional and the larger one (2cm) on my right "appears" to be hemorrhagic. Which I found out more about here...http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/medical/hemorrhagic_cyst.htm , but still doesn't tell much. The doctor seems hesitant on telling me much and wants me to talk to the gyno, however I can't get in to see him until the fourth of next month. I'm just trying to learn more in the meantime. The only thing I can do is take BC pills to help reduce their size (possibly), which I had been taking for years and it wasn't working. Recently went completely off the pill because it was causing other, unrelated problems.

I posted on your other Q also...
I have the same thing, several cysts on one ovary, & one huge one on the other.... one is hemmoraghic, the others functional...
no biggie, my gyno says as long as I have no pain, & they dont get bigger, leave them alone.

you could opt to get them removed, but they should not cause any UTI stuff like you posted on you prior Qs... cysts shouldt effect that.

the only reason I found out I had cysts is that i had a fibroid that was causing abnormal bleeding & had that removed... the ultrasound to find the fibroid showed the cysts.

just relax, dont freak out, and talk to your doc.
freaking out every day doesnt make it any better.... you wont lose an ovary.
they can remove a cyst if they have to by taking the cyst itself (my gyno told me this if mine grows & i have to have it removed...)

no sense depressing over something you dont have all your facts on yet.

About 7 years ago I had an ovarian cyst and had to have it removed, along w/my ovary. I had one when I was pregnant w/my first child, she is now 9, it went away and came back. I went to my ob/gyn and he monitored it and it kept getting larger until it had to be removed. Since then I have not had any more and I got pregnant w/only one ovary. You should really go to the doc and let him monitor as it is better to have it removed than let it burst. Oh, there are 2 different types as well, but I can not remember exactly what they are called.

In Dec. 05 I went in to find the source of nearly debilitating pain in my abdomen: diagnosis: Positive pregnancy and 10cm HC. I was floored. I was told that the cyst would dissolve on its own, and prescribed Vicodin for pain. My cyst my have already been there or reoccurring but was stimulated by the increase in hormones and blood flow associated with pregnancy. After numerous blood test and Ultrasounds, I had a MC, and the cyst dissolved. I do still however suffer form chronic abdominal pain and irregular cycles, as a result my Doc is preparing for my to under go a laparoscopy to further explore my abdomen and check for signs of endometriosis. .
Hang in there, and keep researching.
Also, have your Doc screen you for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

I have had several cysts burst including one that got to 3 cm, they were very painful to say the least. Have you discussed the possibility of PCOS or some other condition with your Dr.? If you haven't now would be a good time to do that. I know that cysts do run in my family, my mother got a lot more than I do.

I've only had one before, but my family has a history of having multiple cysts. My cousin has had alot of problems with mulitple cysts, but they put her on a medicene(not sure what it's called) to shrink the cysts. The only really sucky side effect was that she had menopause like symptoms while she was taking the medicene and she wasnt able to get pregnant. But since she's been off the medicene she's had a healthy baby boy. So you dont always have to have them removed, so try not to worry! Good luck!

First off talk to your doctor and join a womens health support group Thats what I did! I felt so much more sane by being around others experiencing such awful problems. Try to have some eggs removed and frozen for future pregnancies if you are going to want children before your ovaries removed. :D Good Luck. :)
