For a good mix of fantasy and comedy, I would suggest the immortal Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series by the late great Douglas Adams. Another good bet is the "Myth" series by Robert Lynn Aspirin. *Titles include The Mything Link, Hit or Myth and Mything in Action*

fantasy books are interesting. the world is totally made up and anything goes. it takes you in and away from the real world of crap you are in.
my fav was the redemption of althalus by david eddings. it was thick but really thorough and utterly enjoyable.
