There are a couple ways to possibly speed up your internet connection. These include newer modems, updated modem software and connection strings (provided by your ISP) for your modem. You can also replace the phone line between the computer and the jack to help eliminate static and noise caused by older lines.
As far as the computer itself. Remove any software you aren't using. Scandisk followed by Disk Defrag will help clean things up and straighten them out allowing for slightly faster access. Remove any unused files that you have saved on the computer. Purchasing a registry cleaner will help as it will keep the computer from trying to archive registry keys that are no longer needed. Additional memory upgrades will help. A newer hard drive with a faster read speed can help (though not quite feasable).

Increase or buy more memory (RAM) and also close any and all programs that run in the background, like those little icons down on the bottom right of your desktop,.............close all Except those programs you need to surf the web, don't not disable your firewall or anti virus or the ISp that you are using (AOL, Yahoo!, MSN and so on) Use only one ISP at a time and also use only one Instant Messing-er at a time.
Try to do just one thing (Running one program or only those programs that you need at the time that you are doing something) Too many programs slow your computer. Also De frag your Hard drive and do Disk Clean up, Check out Internet accelerators at C/net .com.
And finally run a anti spy ware program,
Transfer Music, vids, and pics to CDroms not only to save RAM but also that in the event of a crash, you won't lose them!

properly in very nearly all communities, your internet is truly plugged into some field on or close on your highway. even as each and every man or woman plugged into that field attempt to max out their internet connections you should adventure some slower internet. As on your pc, it does have something to do with it. Your internet browser has to load, and your pc runs it. Viruses could also decelerate your pc and soak up a range of of your internet connection, making it look sluggish

I would guess you have a spyware infection which is causing the loss of speed.. go on google and search for "counterspy antispyware".. It comes with a 15day free trial. and should clean your machine.
I would then install adaware from www.lavasoft.com and windows defender. (free from microsoft.com) .. and you should see a speed increase. Also, run less stuff at once and clean out anything in your programs --> Startup folder.

First, try to clean up the registry files. If it's still slow, then re-install XP.

The best way is to re-install XP, but make sure you back-up 1st!
And configure your start-up on ipconfig . . .
