I've just started Yahoo Answers yesterday. I had read a lot of people having marriage issues. I have a good marriage, it's something that me and my spouse works at. Just like a house, as it needs fixing and improving as the years roll past, a marriage does also!
What kinds of things do people do to make their marriage work, making marriage and family life fun?

48 yrs old and married for 30 of them, to the same man.... we have had so many problems over the first 12 or so, i was not sure we would make it..... I learned almost to late that marriage does take work..... but we both figured it out.... still working on it though, of course it is a lifetime job..... but gets easier with time and trust and love and mostly God...... we talk, and have fun... we take turns at picking what to do with spare time.... he hunts, but makes sure than off time is for me and my choices..... as for kids, they are grown and now we have grands coming out of the wood work...... movies, sand boxes, and wrestling, 5 boys, 1 girl, and shopping for purty dresses..... we are a full and loving family...... young ppl need to know that marriage is compromise and promises kept....... God bless

Bravo. Best anaology regarding a marriage I've ever seen. I do the same as you and have for the past 22 years. Communication and comprimise. It's the only way to make it work. granted there are some things one or the other of you may have to take a firm stand on but for the most part some type of concession can be reached in almost all cases. no single person is in control. its not a 50/50 relationship. Marriage is a 100/100 one.

When the kitchen is unusable for two months and the entire family (five) are sleeping in the living room, it becomes a bit testy. Tell hubby that this is a good time to take that out-of-town assignment that he has been ducking. Lock away all knives and heavy, blunt objects. Best Wishes and Good Luck!
