Right now the customer is loosing at the pump due to high gas prices. Energy prices affect everything in the ecomony overall. But the profiters are the oil companies still. Now the rural areas that use oil hasn't been addressed on any news show yet. But I would expect prices to rise in that sector too. But as I wrote above the customer is loser.

It is funny. Remember a couple years ago when the people were chanting "NO War for OIL" I do. If it was a war for oil... Why am I an American paying $3.25 a gallon.
What about the oil companies and their soaring profits? True oil companies are making more than ten years ago. But what they don't mention is ten years ago many companies were on the verge on bankruptcy. The market chooses the price for oil based on (supply and demand).
OPEC is really the only benefactor of all of this. The numbers prove it. The rest is just political mumbo jumbo.
But this is actually a good thing. Change in the energy sector isn't going to happen until demand for change is everywhere. When enough people make noise industry will listen. Not because they care. But because they want to make money. SO in the end our demand will bring about reform.

When oil companies can give retirement packages to executives that tally into the hundreds of millions of dollars, it would seem that the oil companies themselves are indeed profiting. Yet, let us not forget about the oil producing nations, specifically OPEC. While the people in most of these nations still live in poverty, those tied to oil production, such as upper level members of government, live in extremely lavish conditions. Hence, various state officials in OPEC nations also profit well.
