The word "liberal" has been turned into a curse word that's spat out rather than said. We've been called stupid, godless and every other kind of insult. How do you feel about all that? Do you tend to hide the fact that you are liberal around others because of the negativity? And, please, I'm asking you nicely...if you are a conservative, please don't bother answering if all you are going to do is bash or insult. It's okay...I already know how you feel.

I'm very proud to be a liberal, and I have no problem with everybody knowing and I have never hidden the fact that I am one. The only reason Liberal is considered a "curse" word is because many Liberals have let it become that, The right uses it in that capacity and the left lets them get away with it, I think its time we turned the tables and turned Conservative into a curse word. And the thing is that most people probably don't even know what a Liberal is, they only go by what G.W. tells them and what they hear on Fox (faux) news. I have seen so many stereotypes out there, like Liberals don't have jobs, and Liberals are lazy and Liberals are too sheepish for war etc. and well me personally, I'm a PROUD Liberal and I have a wife and three children, I work 40+ Hours a week, I have a nice house in the suburbs of a mid size city in Illinois, and I have no problem with war if its justified and all other options have been exhausted. So the stereotypes that Fox and Co. spews out about Liberals is just that Stereotypes.

I stay away from political discussions. Usually, they end up solving nothing anyway. Frankly, I think liberalism is more common than people realize. I have noticed that people I consider to be more intelligent than the average Joe, tends to be more liberal. That's just from quiet observation. And people that shout out their insults and are deadlocked in their opinions, and are arrogant about thier beliefs etc, are the lesser intelligent ones. I just sit back and observe most of the time. I have also noticed that those same people, the louder they get, the less actual confidence they have in thier beliefs. It's like they are trying to convince themselves even more than they are trying to convince others. That's why I don't get involved. Because it's like trying to reason with a drunk person, it's impossible and gets you no where. I often wonder how much actual thought people put into their positions. I am proud of who I am, and I don't need anyone else to confirm or deny it. It makes no difference to me.

i am a liberal democrat and proud of it. No i don't hide my feelings nor my beliefs. The people who believe opposite of me don't bother to hide who they are, why should i?
As far as how i feel about being bashed? sometimes it makes me angry and i "fight back." other times i just roll my eyes at some for the truly obnoxious responses and let it go... because why bother arguing with people who have no desire to state their case but would rather just throw around insults and lies and innuendos to try to look smart. If someone truly wants to debate i am all for it, but if all they are going to do is act like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum because someone didn't agree with their opinions well then ... i don't have time for that. For the most part i ignore the ignorant and debate with people who are really there to discuss the issue at hand.

I guess I am a liberal democrat. There are some republicans that I like. I don't hide the fact as liberal means freedom and democrat is a person belonging to a democracy. It seems a lot of name calling does happen especially when you hit up certain people with numerous facts. The nicest response I have received after explaining certain things was, "we just don't agree."

I'm a Liberal and I'm a Democrat and I'm proud of my beliefs. Anyone who thinks otherwise can feel free to think that way, just don't piss me off and I'll be fine.

I used to be a Republican and a conservative, but after I did some research on both poltical parties and their beliefs and stances on various issues, I sided more with liberalism. I do share some conservative and Republican beliefs though, such as supporting the War on Terror and supporting the 2nd Amendment. (Yes, I support the NRA. Don't like it, tough crap.)

sometimes I just feel like Ann Coulter has something against us. She is trying to turn everything into black and white. All of the sudden, if you believe one thing, you are characterized as one group, and if you believe something else, the other. How can two political parties truly reresent everyone in our country?

Its like if you are not republican then you are automatically a dem or a liberal, now the word liberal is synonimous with gay marriage, drug use, pro choice, anti war, pro french fries, anti freedom fries, un patriotic, un medicated, un educated, anti religous, anti american idol, ect.

Its ridiculous. Im not a repub or a dem, but if a repub knew about a few opions i had, they would call me a liberal, like its a bad thing.

I really don't care that i'm called a liberal and am proud about my beliefs. Conservatives have tried and in a lot of cases succeded in making liberal a dirty word. So usually when i'm refering to myself as liberal i throw dirty in there.

I try not to pay attention to people who call me godless and stupid because I automatically win that argument. Without making a point calling someone stupid is just another way of calling yourself stupid.

When people call me un-american i get upset. But since i know that i'm very "american" i try not to let it bug me that much.

liberalism prefers careful thought over dogma
free thought over tradition
seeking truth through knowledge rather than vain repetition of
what one is told

that being said it is easy to draw a picture that liberal = atheist but that is a simplification by a simple mind or a misinformed one

as a liberal pentecostal christian i believe in a God who created the universe in 7 days (ITS DAY SPAN NOT OURS)

and that it (GOD) identified three parts of itself and only assigned gender to one part of itself

that God is an it and not a human person of a gender but beyond human personage and thus beyond basic comprehension

i think that these conservatives that seek to deny the thoughts of others reveal the smallness of their minds. If an idea cannot bear the weight of legitimate scrutiny it is based in lies and smoke.
questioning a leader isn't disloyalty
questioning a course of action isn't anti-american

I'm a liberal. At least in a social sense. Economically I'm a staunch conservative/capitalist. And no, I don't hide it.
Partly because the term is meaningless outside the US...and I'm not American.
